Airbox & large tank?

The tanks on the new yz450's are small. I bet they couldn't do the 30 min+2 with the way these guys ride these things. The design of the new yamaha makes it difficult to build a larger gas tank that looks good on this bike. Trust me I have been looking for one for my '10 for those long desert rides and it's hard.

I hear they're something like 1.6 gallons. Wasn't 2 Gallons typical a few years ago.

Depending on how much more volume you're looking for, I've heard of people filling tanks with hot liquid then pressurizing them to get a bit more volume. Don't know how much more you can get out of a stocker though.

That's what happens when you take a bike designed for an SX only contract and head to the great outdoors. Takes a lot of fuel to get a 1/8 ton pig around a national track for 30 + 2.

Ill bet this might have had something to do with Langston's troubles, thing is that the new YZ450f was designed with the weight of the normal sized fule tank at capacity and weight add an extra gallon you're adding an extra 8lbs to the top of a bike that already has a light feeling to it and I doubt they tested a tank this big based on the pics of him practicing.

On a side note, with the efi almost being the norm these days how if at all does the foam in the fuel tanks riders have been running for years affect the fuel pump? Or does it at all? Im thinking that the foam might mess with the pump since the bikes are no longer gravity fed and the pump is sucking the fuel in would the foam get sucked into the pump as well? Screen or not it might have enough negative perssure to pull the foam into the pump or at least somewhat block it?

I'd heard that all the YZ riders were going to use this tank but Grant was the only guy I saw running one. I walked the pits three times and he was the only guy running it. I guess he did'nt want to risk it but everyone else made it.

Ugly and stupid. The standard tank should be up for the task. They have been around to know how long a standard moto is on both sides of the pond...
