I’m 98% sure no KTM or Husky running cone valves have had DLC lowers. Here’s a pic of his bike in 2015 with no DLC. I’ve wondered why as well since every other team runs a coating. Guess they don’t need it.

The lowers used to be aluminum unlike most steel tubes. I don't think any of the rider's with the 52mm's run DLC or other coating? Also no KRoc clamps.

On the other hand, he may be testing the pre production prototypes for 2019? JK

Gah, the details you guys pay attention to. It's amazing. I would hardly notice if a guy chose to run a new exhaust or something..

48mm lowers are steel tubes with DLC, the 52s are aluminum and have never been DLC coated...I don’t believe DLC will adhere to aluminum properly.

Also the Husky team has been on Neken clamps for a few years now.

Interesting. I had no idea. What’s the weight of the 52’s vs the standard production WP fork?

You mite find of those 52's have Alloy lower tubes, not steel. I believe the Black DLC coating has to be applied at a very high temperature inside a vacuum chamber. This high processing temperature can affect the tempering of the Alloy tube an maybe make it stiffer and more brittle.

Just a theory the DLC is good for friction and I believe the steel tubes can take the process with out making the tubes stiffer or more likely to wind up snapping.

You ever see how Jason sets it on the way back to the starting line after his sighting lap?

Stupid question, for the 52mm forks for they use “normal” outside diameter triple clamps and just bore the inside diameter larger and make the clamp wall thinner? Or do they create a larger “ clamp ring” with a larger ID and OD?
