Used to use that stuff when I raced BMX in the 80's. It was the shit back then.

Power washing probably won’t flush out the “grease” either.

I use GT85 rather than WD40. I only use it after I've cleaned my bike on my chain, footpeg mounts, shifter etc to keep water out. Maybe spray a little down my clutch cable during ride day. Other than that I barely use it.

Used it when I rode proper sand tracks, it didn’t hold the sand like normal chain lubes. I think there is a different type of lithium based wd 40 now that would probably work better.

A ‘chain bake’ is great to do after a few rides although can get a bit messy.

WD40 and what I use it for.....

1.) After washing the bike up , I can hit certain areas with it and a soft nylon brush....can remove the stains out of just about anything.

2.) Mist over my raw Scalvini pipe , scrub lightly and wipe off the majority of it......keeps it looking sweet.

3.) real light mist over the entire engine , which helps mud and so forth NOT stick to the motor on the next ride.

4.) Use the big can of wd40 and blast my chain after every wash to help clean it out.

Back on my first point.....with some elbow grease , WD40 can clean up engine case , carbs , porous clamps , brakes and so forth to about brand new. Love this stuff.

I'll never forget the time I sprayed down a bare metal pipe with it. I let it sit out on my driveway and two little old ladies came walking by. As they walked past I heard one of them comment " My .... what a nice cologne that young man is wearing".

I know an ex- national champ here in Japan that only uses chainsaw oil to lube his chain.

You shouldn't lube your chain with WD-40. WD-40 is basically a cleaner, not a lubricant. On a chain it will heat up too quickly and fly off. It can also get into the rollers and flush out the grease in there. Spray it on before you wash your bike to loosen up the old chain lube and grime and then pressure wash it off. When you're done washing, dry the chain and apply regular chain lube. I have a portable little leaf blower that I dry my bike off with. It works great to dry the chain. Otherwise, spin the wheel a few times with a rag around the chain. Leaving WD-40 to soak into your chain is not a good idea.
23 years of wd40 and a hell of alot of Moto with long lasting chains makes me think that what you wrote is mostly bullshit. Just my opinion.

Actually one of the best chain lubes you can use. Just not very practical. They even sell oil drip, auto lubers for street bikes that work amazing!

I had a ‘78 RM 80 with drum brakes. I was cleaning it up in the garage and took the rear axle out (for the first time ever) and saw all the rusty mess in there, so I detailed the front and rear brakes with WD-40 and greased the axles. Proud of myself for getting all that rust out of the brakes. Lolololol

I about took out a whole family in the pits the next time I rode it. Haha I was young and first bike. A learning lesson. The guy next to us, sprayed them with brake cleaner and lit them on fire. I raced that night and never changed the brakes after that. But they never worked very well either. Lol

Nobody uses good ol' Castrol graphite chain lube any more?

I don't get out very regularly any more, but that's all I've used, like, for decades now.

Maybe with a WD40 pre-spray/pre-clean if it's wet and/or very dirty.

I use it in the chain & my exhaust to stop them rusting after washing the bike, also on the footpegs, gear lever then spray some onto a cloth to dry the bike after. Never spray it the the rubber casing that covers the throttle as over time it will make it bubble & go baggy.

Guys that used WD40 as a lube or metal preservative in firearms find that it gums up and can make a firing pin drag enough to cause misfires and cause triggers to drag and stick. I always liked Belray 6 in 1 for general lubing. I will use WD40 once in a while for small degreasing jobs if I don't have mineral spirits at hand. WD40 has it's place but for me it is a very narrow window.

Idiocracy, best movie ever. More of a documentary now a days unfortunately, but great entertainment nonetheless

I wouldn't use WD-40 for chain lube.

But it does have lots of other uses.

WD-40 is not a good motorcycle chain lube. Just review the SDS sheet and look up the CAS numbers listed. 4 of the 5 ingredients In WD-40 are derived from mineral oil. Mineral oil for a lubricant is terrible. Zero load and heat carrying capabilities. It works well for household use, bicycle chains, sliding glass doors, hinges etc. As a motorcycle chain lube? Your MMV, but I would use something designed for motorcycle chains....
