Holy crap, it appears the WADA threshold is 0.10% which is higher than the common limit of 0.08% in the U.S. to be considered DUI.
What am I missing here?

Well, an Australian Speedway rider a year or so back, got done for Alcohol. I'd bet that in the past, a fair few 'hell raisers' in MX have been still a bit pissed before Sundays Moto's.
Hell I like my beverages, but, Alcohol is the most commonly abused drug of all.
You've just had a bloke in the 450 class in Flat Track get nailed for Marijuana in the US.
Just before the '98 World MTB Championships that I raced in, they made a Big thing about targeting Marijuana in DHers. Fair enough, I shared the mountains with far too many stoned wankers in racing, and their antics pissed me off - there's a time and place for such things, and it's not on vicious DH tracks. But, this was all while EPO was rampant, and they ignored it, targeting Dope and Downhillers for headlines / distraction. I, and others in the Chateau Monte Saint Anne were kept up through the nights by the incessant door opening and closing, and the pitter patter of weedy XC riders feet when so many of them had to get up and ride the rollers to avoid carking it in their sleep - a noted risk of EPO abuse.

I would assume they are testing them more from a safety standpoint, not from a performance enhancement standpoint.

That 0.1g/l is equal to 0.01 bac.
I simply thought WADA was there to police for performance enhancing drugs, but last time I checked alcohol was about as performance enhancing as chloroform.
By the sounds of some of the story's , a lot of riders in the 90s would have failed this , and even a champ in the 00s would have failed

Alcohol was actually one of the first PEDs used in the Tour de France.

They're doing it for a reason.... they didn't just decide to test guys for alcohol for nothing. This may be their way of saying, "we've heard rumors so stop the bull shit or you'll get caught."
Racing drunk is just as dangerous to yourself and fellow competitors as driving drunk, good on them for stepping up.
How stupid can these people get? Mxers can't drink and ride, 1 they be more dehydrated drinking alcohol.
Freestyle on the other hand......

For the record...I shot that photo of Chad at the Supercross post-season party on a year that he'd won the title. When I did, I didn't realize there was a tradition of one person bringing a bottle of Jack, and walking it around to all the top riders for them to grab a pull off of it.

Didn't the press release say for rider safety rather than performance enhancing? I guess that comes under their remit, I mean cannabis could hardly be considered performance enhancing but they test for that on safety grounds.
