Been wanting one for a while. I used to have a klr650 and the thing was bulletproof but also weighed about 2tons. I have a cruiser bike for longer rides, but 90% of my trips are within 10 miles of my house so I have been wanting something more nimble that I could "detour" down a quick trail.

Any opinions as to this bike? 1000 miles is promising. San Marcos means it's a college student's bike, so consider accordingly. It's also about 1.5 hours from me so just going to "check it out" is a commitment.

If all your gonna do is zip-around riding, that thing would rock ! But highway stuff will get sketchy fast. I had a 2012 DR-Z400S and while it was fun for the zip-around, going highway speed scared the hell outta me.

That bike is definately worth a look,,, and throw a lower offer and see what kinda deal you can make.

thanks, and agree. Even with my KLR, I hated driving on the freeway. I have a 800cc Suzuki for that. This would be for 3-7mile runs around my small town and to detour through a dozen cool fields/trails I frequently drive past. :-)

Even with the d-s tires on, paved doesn’t feel great. But u can hammer the trails.

Lots of people have good luck with DRZ’s. Had one, weight slammed me too hard.

Its hard to buy one when theres hooligan machines like the fz09 or z900 for 5/6 grand out there. Those things feel like dirtbikes

The WR250R is by far the best of the three in that class, but the kawi is still a good bike, or a great one at that price. Plus it's basically a klx300, so you can bump it 50cc with just a piston/rings/cylinder and maybe some jets, using all oem parts. I've ridden a buddy's klx300 and it's a really comfortable trail bike. His is all uncorked and it's plenty peppy enough to have fun on. They feel a bit like you sit *in* them, as opposed to an mx'er where you feel like you sit *on* them. Depending on your size, some springs and a tall seat would go a long way to changing that. The DRZ would be a better bike, but I dunno, there's something fun about these little motors. Anyway, if you're a kawi guy with a budget of $2500, it's a no-brainer.

I've got a KLX. Not too fussy about the gearing in it. They could have separated some of the ratios more. It's a bit too high in first and too low in 6th. Other than that, well and the lack of beans in the engine, it's a good fun bike.

I have an 18 klx 250, I love it but I think the power may be a bit low for someone with more riding experience. Its most comfortable around the 40-50 mph range. Mine is fuel injected though, not sure how the feel of the carbureted ones are. Either way, if its just for around town, I say do it!
