Gonna sign up and race it... talked about it for years, the time has come. Any tricks or tips for terrain, bike set up, tires, etc
Thanks

Long race, don't give up. Lotta shit can and will happen
Hard-pack/Rocky terrain tires. Hydrate! Try to get around guys in the open sections.
Nobody ever told me, I found out for myself. You've got to believe in foolish miracles. It's not how you play the game, it's if you win or lose. You can choose. Don't confuse. Win or lose. It's up to you!
Slip a hunny in yer riding pants. If you break down in the back you can always hit cathouse.
Also I was thinking 2 classes.. 30 am saturday and bomber class on Sunday.. is this crazy thoughts or doable?? I’m not winning either class but I’m not a turd either..
Last year I ended up blacking out the night before and going to bed at 3:30 AM, waking up at 7 and racing 4.5 hours. Ended up 1 spot off the podium in open expert class and continued to celebrate and blackout again saturday night. So my advice is have fun with the event! The race itself kinda sucks but everyone has to do it, it's the whole weekend atmosphere that makes it a great event.

Funny to see this thread, i'm in the same boat. Always wanted to do this race and I think this will be the year I do it
Anyone that's raced it before, keep the advice coming! I didn't realize it's a 4 hour GP. And I thought the 2+ Hr DITD Coup de Grace was brutal...

Steer clear of the headstones in the cemetery. I clipped one on the 1st lap and had to stop to bang my leg straight again, good times.
Charles, did you race this race? Tried it after losing my leg, funner than almost anything else I've tried.
Kick ass race.... I did it in 2016, it was one of those off years....meaning it was wet, cold and snow on the ground, I raced on Saturday 50+, did all 4 laps, 4+ hours.......and finished! I raced my 99 GasGas EC200...for kicks! Lost my front fender on lap #1....smiles for miles!
My advice would be not to try to win on the first lap - lots of carnage. Also there are narrow single tracks worn into rocky sections where everyone will ride single file, if you are good at ridding rocks you can make a lot of passes in those sections. Have fun VC is a blast - the town, not so much the race, it's tough!

Take it easy when you drop down off C street the first time, I watched so many people blow through the first left onto the dirt a few years ago. It was not pretty.
A couple people have told me to take it easy on all the pavement sections... knobbys don’t brake or turn quickly on pavement
Does anybody know who took photos of the event?? I saw a lot of photographers on the course but haven't seen anything yet on where to check them out??
Thanks
Raced for the first time this year (2018) and man what an event. Hardest thing I have ever had to do, finished in 5:03:00 and was definitely a blast! Who else got stuck in the fire on sutro?

I bought a couple at the race.. I believe it’s moto13photo.. I’ll check when I get home tho.
They stopped us on the road before we headed back up the hill toward sutro..
How did you all do?
