I though no off-road bike that was closed course and street legal came with a title or certificate of origin until around 1997-2000 time frame? I'm selling a 92 500, some guy from Australia said he was interested, he apparently buys a lot of vintage moto bikes, but would require a title for export.

I don't remember ever having a title for any of my bikes from the 80s and 90s. Anyone have more information or experience on the subject?

You should be able to apply for a replacement title at your DMV/Secretary of State.

I have the title for my ‘81 Honda XR200R.

See about a replacement or get a bonded title (may vary by state).

Someone posted a link to this the other day: https://mcostore.com/. Worth considering if that’s enough to get it sold.

I have titles for all my vintage bikes, dating to the 70s. Laws vary by state, but as others said, you should be able to get a new/replacement title issued.

In Ohio, off-road bikes did not have titles until 1999. To get a title for a pre-1999 model there is a process to follow, VIN inspection, some paperwork, and of course some fees, and you get a title made.

You would need to research the process for your state.

I have applied for a title on a "special construction" motorcycle. Its the same forum that is used to get a home made trailer registered with a title. The process took 2 damn months.

Maybe VA has a faster process if the vehicle already has a VIN.

Shhh. Keep this here. Biggest secret in the vintage bike world. Vermont. Type in Vermont license plates in Google and you’ll find the means to get a Vermont title for any of your old bikes, then, if you wish - you could transfer into your home state title. True. Y’all owe me beers.

In idaho you just apply for a title... for us bike didn’t get titles before 91... it’s pretty easy really, first one took awhile cuz I didn’t know the process, a lot of back and forth to the DMV...

I had a 1980 Yamaha MX 80 and a 77 RM 125 as a kid without a title. My grandfather had to take both to the DMV to get them inspected before a new one could be issued. This was in 1985 for the 80 and 87 for the 125.

Sworn affidavit saying you originally bought it. Pre 2000s I think they’ll issue title. Your state may vary..
