As sponsored athletes you obviously need to promote the brand and companies that are supporting you, but is there a line where it's just too much and actually hurting the brand?

Over the course of this years SX season my IG has been plastered with Rockstar MX athletes uploading a "casual" photo while promoting the brand.

These beverages don't appeal to me, but as someone who works a lot in the marketing industry these posts look way too forced and in my opinion look bad on the brand.

I'm sure it's gained some new customers, but those that have been tricked into the marketing scheme are most likely the same ones who think podium riders are actually drinking an energy drink after racing on the podium.

...Let's keep this a friendly discussion LOL.

One of their athletes told me they’ve gotten more strict on how often they have to post with a drink and what flavor it is...if they don’t, they could be penalized.

|

It's pretty easy to scroll on by the stuff that doesn't appeal to you...

|

It's pretty painful to see

|

It’s a little cheesy IMO but hey if they are gonna pay me a ton of money to post pictures of me with their product...count me in

Curious, is it being forced when you are PAID with either money or other form of sponsorship? Seems a contractual onligation agreed upon,

|

4/29/2019 4:21 PM

Part of the contract.

Unfollow is an option.

4/29/2019 4:24 PM

Yes, part of the contract. Yes, I can unfollow. I understand that. What I was more curious about is views from other people if this also steers them away from the company by making their athletes make "forced" posts. I'm sure all the other brands have some obligation in their contract whether it be a tag, or a post every so often.

I see it as Rockstar trying to shut up fans saying these athletes don't actually drink the energy drinks.

I personally don't drink any of that crap anymore. They are trying to sell a product though and little Jimmy and Timmy just watch Ando grab a Rockstar out of a gas station fridge.

The more I see stupid posts like that, the less likely I'll ever be to buy whatever product is featured. Please don't insult my intelligence with that garbage, it's just dumb.

I don't buy any of the energy drinks so the posts don't bother me.

I'm passed the age of influence. If I like something, I buy it, if I don't like it, I don't. People posting about energy drinks or whatever other products won't change my mind.

I heard Rockstar is on the verge of bankruptcy. Their sales are way down and they have big money athletes that they are locked into. I would say this is a push for them to utilize the athletes they are paying to help get sales up. I would imagine that they might go under here soon with the rise of Bang Energy and the new Reign energy drink. Its far too competitive and Rockstar is getting pinched out.

Did you see Webb drinking out of the Red Bull can during the post race interview at East Rutherford? He took a drink, swished it around in his mouth and spit it out multiple times.

I know he was sick, probably had dirt in his mouth, and that there is a 99.9% chance it was water in the can, but I couldn't help laugh anyway for the message he appeared to be sending.

Reign is owned by Monster btw.

I hope they don't go out of business. I do occasionally have an energy drink on the days I have 4 classes, and for actual energy my go-to is rockstars white silver ice zero, which is a straight up copy of monster's white zero in taste but has way more caffeine than monster and is cheaper. I do like the taste of the white/red/blue zero monsters though, if they had a "soda" version of them I would probably keep some around. Everything goes better with an ice cold soda pop

I could see Rockstar declaring bankruptcy honestly. My father and I both work for PepsiCo and Rockstar is one of the worst selling beverages that we distribute, we are constantly taking back out of date product and although I think the high caffeine dose they've pushed as a preworkout drink will last for a year or so before it dies off, nothing is selling. Honestly disappointed to see that one of the companies PepsiCo owns such as Nakedjuice, life water, propel or even Gatorade hasn't made a push into the moto scene as a major sponsor yet.

Why don’t they develop a product their athletes and consumers can actually drink during a race day or workout? Like some kind of actual hydration drink that isn’t full of sugar and caffeine.

I have always wondered why the life water and Gatorade type companies aren’t into it either.

Monster hydro and Monsters new drink called "Reign" is supposedly like that. The Reigns are actually really good and i'm pretty sure they're 0 sugar but I could be wrong.

See I hate threads like this THESE ATHLETES ARE BEINF PAID MONEYYYY. So what if they have to post it. Like the people that hate on savatgy for wearing just 1 but he’s being paid with a fat check. I’d post 10 times a day if i was being paid by a company

Nobody likes a sellout, especially a cheap one.

Don’t be a sellout.

I guess you didn’t see Axell Hodges post today where he’s literally chugging a Monster. Haha “but Rockstar!”

So we now want to legalize cannabis products and promote them through motocross, but caffeine products are bad and we dont want them promoted by motocross?

I am confused, maybe I need some caffeine to concentrate enough to think about this, or maybe I need a toke to relax me enough to think about this....
