Would it be a problem to add a little synthetic oil to VP T2 to make it 32:1 instead of 40:1? Assuming it will be used shortly after it's mixed and does not sit for an extended period of time.

Just wondering if it would be an issues to mix oil, such as Red Line Synthetic if wanted to get to 32:1

Just buy VPR and add your own oil at your own ratio. It’s the same fuel minus the premix

Boom!

But, I'd just run the 40:1.

FTR, I've been cutting it down to 50:1 with VPR for modern 2Ts (KTM/Husky).

Does VPR have the same shelf life as T2? I've been told T2 can sit in the shop for a couple years before going bad..

Understood, but this some old 80's 125cc bikes and we want to run 32:1 for some testing. We normally run 40:1 T2.

Not sure, maybe someone knows but here's the description:

Product Description

Designed for today’s modern stock or modified 2-stroke engines, T2 is pre-mixed at a 40:1 ratio with a top quality JASO FD-rated, certified premium synthetic oil that, combined with the other fuel components, offers optimum performance. Because it contains no ethanol, T2 prevents repairs needed for ethanol-related problems. This increases the time between rebuilds, extends the life of your engine, and lowers your long-term costs, all while making more power over pump gas.

Pretty sure it’s maxima that they use.

I’ve always heard as long as it’s sealed in a unopened pail it’s still good

Be a man, go 16:1.

It’s called tongue in cheek. I mix 100:1, always have. 32:1 is ridiculously and why the EPA and environmental wackos hate two strokes

I'm 54 and been mixing gas since 1978. Always 50:1 and 90% of the time Bel-Ray. Never had a problem. Why someone would want to mix at 20 or 32:1 is beyond me.

I am almost 100% sure I remember my Honda’s from the 80s calling for 20:1... I always ran 32:1 and then moved to 40:1 in my 250s. I am currently running Motorex At 40:1 in my 2006 KX250 and it works great, piston looks good after about 25-30 hours, still a chamfer on the rings and the PV looks nearly spotless!

Yes you are correct, 80's Hondas called for 20:1 and there's nothing wrong with it as long as your bike is jetted properly. 40:1 is most popular these days but there's absolutely nothing wrong with 32:1.

I've seen the dyno numbers from the more oil more power guys and the ideal mix for max power was somewhere down around 20:1.

I’ve been mixing T2 with C12 and maxima 927 at 40:1 without issue. Did it out of desperation when no one had T2 one weekend and found out the 125 LOVED it.

Let’s see them. Most people don’t realize adding a bunch of oil changes the jetting, and of course we all know lean is mean.
16:1 and 20:1 were established in the 60s when they used motor oil. Two stroke oil is a different animal.. anyway, don’t put too much stock in dyno tests. We did them for years and years and years and it becomes frustrating watching numbers change from 8am to noon. Rain to sun. Humid to dry. Literally, it’s constant variable change.

I said it before, you would be shocked how little oil you really need, and most failures are not oil related unless you forget to add it which happens more than you think.

It makes me EXTREMELY happy that you guys still debate two stroke stuff, I love these threads and value everyone’s opinions. That kx450 2019 thread sucks ass.. 80’s Honda’s, 20:1.. what an awesome visual. I think of Johnny Omara and Dave Arnold instantly

be careful with 927 and race gas in cold temps there is a warning on the bottle about separation.

Have you tried this oil yet? Seems that Tucker drop their Bellray and switch to this. I was wondering if the stuff was any good.

Haven’t tried it yet (they’re getting me a few bottles). I know they’d had it developed due to a few shortcomings they were finding with oils they were testing. They had concerns about shelf-life, water AND air-cooled engine performance and...how long it lasted in their fuel.

Will do...tho, my ability to pick-up a current smoker for fuel testing has been slightly delayed! Laughing

The answers above are incorrect.

VP's technician informed me this morning when I asked if their T2 oil was Maxima (MXA said this a few years ago) or X2 1050:

"It’s neither of those oils...it’s a custom blend that our oil manufacturer makes for us."

Which one makes the bike run leaner? 32:1 or 50:1

32:1 since there is more oil in the mix. More oil means less premixed fuel can pass through a small orifice (carb jets), therefore 32:1 is leaner than 50:1.

Post a reply to: VP T2...can you add oil to make it 32:1?
