Just looking at the local craigslist
At the Different price points
It seems like its Around $3000
To get any FI 250f
Then from there the choices get tough
Do u just go for the $3000
Or for $4000 you can get a really low Hour used
Bike
Or for $5699 you can get a new KX250F
So price anywhere from $3000
To $5699
And I'm Pretty sure you can get a 2018 KX250F for $5999
What would you do ?

Buy new if you can. If you're going to buy a used 250F (or any bike for that matter) you need to buy from the top of your budget and make sure its clean and as unused as possible. 250Fs get ridden hard and hung up wet and get replaced often.

Look for boot wear on the clutch/flywheel covers, rounded bolts on the motor and suspension, look at the wheels...bikes that are ridden a lot will have wear from the tire rubbing on the rim while its laid over in corners and the wheels will be beat up. Pull the air filter and feel the inside of the air boot.

Personally I would buy a Yamaha 250F used because you can plug the EFI tuning tool in and get the hours. Always ride the bike and let the guy know that you plan on hitting the rev limiter. I bought a used 2016 KTM 350SXF that cut out when you got into the higher RPMs, turns out the fuel pump was bad.

Speaking of used bikes.. was gonna pick up a 2012 yz250 2 stroke for 1500 tomorrow. Been told it's about that time for a new crank (and probably top end, I'm assuming). Mutual friend is selling it. Also what would y'all say a clean 2012yz250 is worth?

Man, if you can get a 2012 YZ 250 for $1500 that's in good shape.... that's a steal.

Will probably the best spent money in your life. 1500 is a steal for that bike. Any used bike needs a rebuild anyway.

To the OP, I would probably get that RMZ, offer 3k for it, bring it home, revalve the forks, replace piston and cam chain and burn some laps on it. If it really has 7 hours on it it should look and feel like new.

That 2014 for $3k would be hard to pass up IMO. Even if it needs a bottom end you are still cheaper than a brand new bike. And if it ends up being fine for a few years, you'll be way ahead money wise. But it is a gamble...

Buy a bike outside of minnesota, one of the worst places to buy bikes. Everyone thinks their bike is mint and everyone lies about its time or hours used. Minnesota nice my ass. Your best bet here is your friend with the yz, that's a great deal and he's being honest with you saying it needs a complete rebuild. You could send it to pro circuit with a 1500 check and get back a fire breathing monster that's brand new. Send your suspension at the same time. Put new bearings in while mitch does his thing and wham, 3500 and your in a new bike

I also like the RMZ with 7 hours on it, with a frame that I have never seen so used near the boots. Blink

It sounds like CL is much more sketchy than I thought, even on recent bikes (in france it is usually pretty honest).

So to the OP, I can only suggest to go with a friend who will inspect the bike with you.

Minnesota Nice LOL
Every one does think there bike is mint
And almost everyone one says new top end
Most without receipts
But on the other side
People here in Minnesota cant Ride 6 months out of the year
So the bike's have half year in the garage
And because they cant Ride 6 months out of the year
They are slower and less hard on the bikes lol
.. Dungey and The Martin's are Exeptions and spent Many Many winters out of Here I'm pretty sure

Good luck sounds like a good deal
I'm planning to Go look at a 2012 RMZ450
Because of the price( $2600 obo) even tho
I want a 250f
That 2016 for $2800 of your buddy's sounds great what brand was it ?
Up to this point the best
Price I have seen for a 2016
Was a 16 RMZ250 for $3200
Which I wish I would have got but I didn't have the money at time

Local dealer was clearing out a 2017 CRF250 and KX250F for $4,999 ($5900ish OTD) a while back. Sure those bikes are long gone by now. (Babbits in Muskegon, MI)

For the above prices, new IMO is a no brainer unless you can get a bike that's just been sitting for a few years with no hours.

If not, a very low hour used bike can be a good deal if you happen to jump on it quick enough. I picked up my 7 hour 2017 YZ250F for a steal over winter. Texted the guy low balling him and he bit. Thing had 1 scratch i didn't notice for over a month while i was building it up for the season.

They have a kx250f and kx450f at advertised 5599. 2.5 months ago they quoted me 4999 on the 250f

Even if the seller swore for his own life, that the bike only has 1 hour on it. It's a good habit to change piston before you ride your new used bike.
