Hey Vital,

I've been out of MX since I was on superminis in 2007 and have been casually looking for a nice used Ktm 150. A 2016 Ktm 125 from around my old home area has popped up on CL and I am curious on what a reasonable price to target is. It has 11.5 Hours on it and looks pretty clean. Obviously I will look in person but trying to get an idea before hand. I would rather a 150 but I'd go after a good clean 125 for the right price and consider upgrading to a 150 head and cylinder down the road.

The bike is at a dealer, and listed at 6K on CL in one ad, and 5700 for the same bike in another ad. I have seen 2016 150s going for around 5K but with a bit more hours. Considering the 2017 came with the air forks instead of the 4CS i think there is room to come down from 6K (seen some 2017s on CL already for mid 6's) even with such low hours, just not sure what price to target. Bike has suspension work which i will have redone anyway, an fmf pipe and silencer, and pegs.

Thanks

Collin

Man, $6k for a used 125? I can get a brand new Yamaha for $5800. A new 17 KTM with a much better front end probably only costs $500 more.

Consider you'll need to throw a thousand bucks at the 4CS forks to get them "fixed".

Pass.

I agree it's too high. My best guess is 5k but again complete shot in the dark.

At the dealer you are going to pay tax too. That $6K just went up to $6500....

Do you get some kind of discount or have a relationship with your local dealer? Because with the popularity of 2 strokes I don't see any dealers within a 300 mile distance of having any reason or incentive to sell them $500-700 below MSRP. Most places can't keep enough of them in stock...

If it's truly an 11 hour bike. Meaning total hours since new, and not 11 hours on the rebuild, $5k wouldn't be terrible. Still think that is a bit high even. But I'm of the mindset that if you're looking at spending 75% or more of what a new one costs, you should just buy new instead. Not worth the potential hassle and unknowns that go with a used dirt bike to save $500-$1000.

No, I just hunt for deals. My YZ250 cost me $6800 out the door in April 2014. That includes sales tax.

I found my buddy a killer deal on a 17 YZ250 recently. $6900 out the door. Called about 10 dealers. Some were as high as $8400 and wouldn't budge. They didn't get the business.

If you're paying sticker, plus tax and fees, you're a sucker.

Also should add it definitely depends on your area. I can find much better deals out here than when I lived in Bay Area CA. A quick trip to one of the larger dealers in WV that sell a lot of dirt bikes and you can get an awesome deal on a new bike.

My 2017 KTM 125 was 7200$ OTD and that included a $500 discount. $6k for an 11-hour bike seems about right...especially since 5 of those 11-hours were supposed to be break-in hours.

...and that's why I will buy only new bikes from here on out.

I only see my post about what it will actually cost OTD and a whole lot of speculation of what it should cost. The MSRP for the 17 125 is $6899.00 and I got lucky and found one in November. So take the MSRP of $6900 and add $800 for taxes and dealer cost makes it a $7700 bike OTD. So yea, $6000 for an 11-hour bike would be a reasonable price.

OP make sure you read up about the forks. Many have found the 4CS to be 'ok" while many others prefer AER or pretty much anything else. Depending on your speed and ability 4CS may be just fine for you.

If you really want the 150....shop around and get one...new or used. They are super cool unique bikes.
At some point you will have to sell the bike yourself....I would much rather be trying to sell a factory 150 as opposed to a 125 that I "turned into a 150".

Whether it has 11 hours or 40 hours....all depends on WHO put those hours on that bike.
A "racer" who kept it at max revs constantly or a young kid who it turns out couldn't handle that much bike.

My vote: GET the 150!

Too high on price. 5k is more reasonable for private seller but they should let you have it for 5300-5500 plus fees. That'd be a good deal for almost brand new bike. I prefer the 125 power delivery to the 150. The 125 has a more fluent gear to gear power. The 150 has a little more low and hits hard in the mid but signs off earlier. Both bikes are a lot of fun and can't go wrong with either. I don't have many problems with the 4CS but im also a light weight so usually never have problems with forks anyways lol. I lowered fork oil height 15cc's and played with clickers until i got a setting that worked for me but i still get slight deflection in choppy sections that i never got with the 17's AER. Im going to do Race Tech gold valves in the next month though.

Nope...it's listed as such in the manual.

Section 7.2 Running in the engine
Maximum engine performance
During First 3-hours of Operation less than 70%
During First 5-hours of Operation less than 100%
