I’m coming off a 2017 kx250f that I love. The fork I even dealt with and thought it wasn’t terrible like everyone claims. So my initial thoughts on the 2020 KX250 are
THE GOOD
1. It flat out RIPS
2. Revs to the moon!
3. Forks and shock were noticeably much better within two minutes of ride time.
4. Awesome tires
5. It RIPS
6. Yes once again IT RIPS
7. It tracks straight as an arrow on acceleration bumps. Some of them were pretty big whooped out sections on a rough track and it still was straight and my confidence went up!
THE BAD
1. Lost a little bottom. Not a ton, but noticeable from my 17
2. Since they changed the piston to a high compression piston and the other engine changes they made, its harder to kick. I loved how easy my 17 was to kick.

CONCLUSION
I’m pumped on my purchase today!!!! This thing flys and is so fucking stable.

They need a bigger muffler... But it's a sweet ass bike none the less! Congrats

That's good to know, making my decision on a 2020 250f is getting harder and harder, there all really good bikes. I'm a Honda guy so I'm just waiting on some test with the new changes they made. Glad you like it!

The problem is that these dudes are copying motogp technology...these motos are built for wide open top end only and a lame bottom end.

Either way, it gonna take a little cash to work these motors.

Add a tooth to the rear sprocket?

|

Glad its a winner for you!

Keefer says bottom end is good. Torque is on par with KTM/Husky/Yam but with better overrev. Sounds like Kawi did their homework.

All that is nice...........But i want to know if it RIPS

Impressed how quickly you were able to take delivery of one. Where are you located? Mind saying what you paid? Here in MA with sales tax at 6.25% and the $500 Kawi incentive, I’m looking at $7120 OTD.

I don't know if I agree

The make more power from about 9000 onward
And most people ride way past 9000 when they have the throttle more than half open.

The initial "tip in" of throttle is weaker - commonly referred to as "bottom" but really it means turn the throttle more....and get more

The engine could easily go back to "last years" bottom with slightly different cam profiles. In fact just a small intake cam change would do it.
It would also lose most of the power gains it's gotten

Power is king in the 250f class - and I think kawi is saving the consumer about 5000 dollars with the 5hp they picked up - and a LOT of reliability from most mods. I'd take that power all day and money savings vs trying to mod a 2019 and make it competitive with a ktm.

If you are a vet looking for more bottom specifically - pick up a left over 2019 for bargin prices.
And in 2021 - there will be plenty of cam options at that point to get the bottom back in trade for the top.

You mentioned it was very stable, does it corner as good as your old ride?

|

I️ keep hearing the ‘20 has 4-5hp gain over the ‘19. Where is this figure coming from? Nothing I’ve read/watched has mentioned hp figures.

I believe he said it was still behind the KTM and Yamaha on torque and and won't be in contention for shootout wins...

There is nothing more dumb looking in those enormous exhausts. I agree completely

|

Muffler appears smaller than the new kx450, or at least more hidden behind the number plate.

Wasn’t interested in financing so didn’t ask about a payment plan. I’d pay cash.

Yes. Like a dream... BTW the MXA test just came out on YouTube and said the exact same things I mentioned in my original post. Maybe I do have a career in this sport after all! 😂 😂
