Unsure about vin

Edited Date/Time 4/1/2018 10:32am
Any help would be appreciated. I've got a yz250. The 10th digit of the vin number doesn't give me any information to what year it is. 10th digit is a 0. Every vin check I've done tells me where it was built and that it's not stolen etc, but the year has no history!? Heres the vin...JYACG230000016896

Lol. Seems like there's more and more people doing it. Why, I don't know.

Would of been easier to tell what year it was with a pic of the bike but I guess that's too difficult.

For the record it's a 2005.

Hi maverick. I can post a pic no problem. Would you be able to tell me how you know it's a 2005. I rang a yamaha dealer and asked them myself. They told me that they was unsure of what exact year it was but it's 2010 onwards as it's the new frame. Can you shed any light on this? Thanks for the reply. Just going to upload a pic. Try too at least lol

That number you have must be wrong, maybe they have put it later.
You can check if that number in a Yamaha dealership recognizes it.

If what you want is to know what year it is, who will help you this page that brings pictures of the different models and years.

picture would help a lot. But probably a 2000 based off of the vin. 2010 and newer would be a letter. A being 2010.

The new aluminum frame for the YZ started in 2005.

VIN check I did said it was a 2005.

Post a pic to be sure.

Lol!

OP, Contact yamaha directly or run the vin with local law enforcement or whatever type of department of motor vehicles you guys have over there. They can get exact for you if youre not sure

I don't know why he said 2010 and newer. I guess it depends how your conversation went and what information you gave him. Based off that he might of made an assumption.

Why do you need to know what year it is? If it's for parts most parts have been the same since 2002.

With that frame it is a 2005 and up. The brake rotors tell me it is a bit older. Anyone remember when they went to the wave rotors?

Looking at the forks and triple clamps, it's 07 or newer.

Yamaha don`t use 10th digit identification in Europe is very annoying.

2007+ stock fatbar
2008+ wave brake discs

Thanks metal miracle. Looks like he's got an aftermarket front disc and a stock non wave rear rotor. So we can narrow it down to 05-07. I think Mavs vin check is right though. It's an 05.

Since the 10th digit is a "0" and the frame is from a 2005+, that VIN states that it is a 2010 yz250. The only other options are a 2000, which it is not and a 2020, which it is not. So, your bike is a 2010.

Not sure if it's different for Europe, but I have someone running the VIN through YDS to make sure. I checked and my credentials don't work any longer for the dealer site. Will report back my findings.
