So after scrolling through old forums and reading through factory bikes over the past decade... A real eye catcher came through of JS7 2004 factory KX 125sr.
The parts on that bike are way ahead of its time!! so after doing some digging i could only find a hand full of early 2000's bikes that showed there factory trick bits. Most internal motor work which was never discussed

I was wondering if any one else has got an insight or know of any other cool parts that had been R&D many yeas ago that we still havnt seen today or better yet redesigned.
I know there are more sensors now and DLC coatings and titanium engine mounts and Bits.
I seen Destry abbots and AC92 run a 93 KX500 brake pedal and Rear Swing arms on there KXF's because of the design was more suited to there style and Longer.
Same with JS7's 125. He had a KX250 swing arm on during Motocross season because it was longer and felt more stable at high speeds.

But does any one know of any other trick bits we haven't seen in a while or different to the usual?

Pics are of a few bikes over the years. Krocs 450 with 02 sensors, JS7's 125 carbon scoops, Metty's 125 with the DLC coated internals, RC4 RM250 carbon brake cover, Reeds Factory Carbi in 2004 etc..

What's special about the clutch pack?

Also does anyone know if bikes are not allowed to run aftermarket radiators? It seems like all the factory bikes still use the stock stamped aluminum radiators.

Metty's YZ125, was the last 125 to race prior to AMA kicking up a stink.
He pretty much had shaved casings, Hinson Clutch pack decked out with Titanium and Coatings on everything that moved to reduce the friction.

The majority of the teams are on custom or modified radiators. Some of the works version just have a stock look to them.

The KX500 brake pedal was mostly used because it bolted right up to a Kx250F and had a folding tip. We ran them in WORCS for a while.

Not the clutch or clutch pack. Keep looking (titanium).

I ran a 500 pedal on my 2015 KX250F, except i swapped out the tip to the titanium hammerhead ones that was a replacement for the KTM's.

Newman, GuyB, ML, etc, I was just a teenager through this period and while I really loved and apprecated the bikes back then, is there any possibility you could put something together on the works bikes of 80's and go into more detail on the differences, modifications? I can pick most stuff out myself these days but a real in-depth article on these bikes with input from and contributions from technicians of the day like Dave Arnold and fanatical collectors like Noomin would be the absolute tits.

Would be cool to see what trick engine internals were on the 2-strokes.

ive always wondered what years the works bikes were far and away better than production bikes...
and how much better, like 20% 40%??? (tho that is somewhat subjective)
mxa used to test a lot but not sure if they ever did back to back..

I haven't seen a team yet that have released what was done internally.

There was a guy that bought an ex factory YZ125.
Pretty much had all the TI parts, special works transmission that apparently was really hard to get into neutral and spreads the rev range, coatings, blue printed to a tighter tolerance, factory carby that is pretty much works the same as them new Lectron carbys, shaved cylinder and barrel, plus not to mention the port and polish job that had been carried out.

So with that minor info, you can only imagine what else went into a factory 2 stroke back then.
it was and still is a massive secret about the internals and motor work for the KX125SR and 250SR edition. to the point they couldn't be test rode by magazines. No idea why, but even the suspension on them was only 2 sets made. Byrner and JS7 had the 2 sets. 1 set got crushed, the other was on JS7 2004 KX250 that was given to RV2 as a retirement gift. (which he rode at straight rhythm)

Transworld rode the 2005 KX250 from Stewart.

Those 1985 footpegs are narrow as hell compared to today!

What the heck is the black cylinder with the cable running into it? Right behind where the kick start lever should be.

Electric power valve motor would be my guess, considering the cable looping over to the power valve..

Kevin Windham had a magnesium carb on one of his early CRFs. If you care to look it up, Doug Henry's 98 and 99 YZ400 was covered in custom parts to cut down on weight.

Try these guys for works radiators. I've heard the factory teams use them. They supply to Nascar and Indy teams.

I believe in 2004, Reed reckons other the suspension... The changing between engine mounts was his biggest trick bit. He said from drilling holes, changing materials etc.. he would notice a huge difference between them!

Even know on the newer factory bikes, I seen Anderson swapping between carbon engine mounts and swapping across to TI ones depending on the track.

thought that was pretty cool, don't know if i would notice a huge difference but these factory guys can pick up on the slightest change.
