Timing seems a bit interesting given that Alta just folded... but this is probably a good thing even if I'm not personally the market for an e-bike.

I'm not on the electric bike bandwagon, but this is definitely good to see and IMO, needed.

Its a unified standard for charging, which is vastly different that unifying the design of powerplants and battery tech.

It's indeed good news for the electric dirtbike future because harmonized charging solutions will make acceptance much easier for the consumer... just like all ICE bikes can use the same exact gasoline. The same thing is happening with electric cars.

This has less to do with dirt bikes than selling a billion scooters in emerging markets

Yeah this is all about charging stations, having like connectors and batteries with a capacitance to be charged at a standard amperage and voltage.

Having said that, from a racing standpoint, it would be interesting if the manufacturers started with a standard motor for competition. This would reduce the cost of development by focusing money on batteries and motor control software. It would be similar to the Moto 2 model. It would be good if this was developed as a replacement for the 125 class in professional competition. 125 performance figures could require less battery expense and weight than designing to full 450 power.
