Please someone who was there post pictures/videos of the XC1 Pro class start..

Everyone needs to see the kid who pulled the holeshot!! Over the all the riders who lined up for the class, with the likes of Kurt Caselli, Nate Kanney and all the big named factory off-road riders, a local expert rider named Ben Bouwens signed up and road the class and pulled the holeshot! Now here's the great thing about it, he shows up on his own bone stock YZ250 that wasn't even cleaned up, with a big red bat sticker on the front number plate instead of actual numbers, wearing full cold weather gear that he rides with in everyday so its all ratted out, and best of all, A HALF HELMET! Thats right, a half helmet. He didn't even wear goggles with the mask like the old days, just regular old goggles with the open faced Arai. For anyone who knows him, love him or hate him, he's a great kid and a naturaly talented rider that does it all on his own. Its just an awesome deal that he was even able to do that. He ended up finishing 8th in class and 13th o/a. Congrats Ben!

Like I said, someone please post pics/vids, I didn't get any and I think you guys would really enjoy it!

In GNCC racing the there's a $250 holeshot award in the xc1 class which is just enough for a new helmet.

Yes, It's a dead engine start.

I was talking to Ben after the race and he was wondering how he was going to cash the huge sized check they gave.for the holeshot. Great race Ben.

He's serious about it alright. The helmet he started to wear mid-summer, saying you haven't seen anyone wear that since bob hannah. And the sticker he's had on for a while now, i asked him once why the batman sticker and he said because he flies by everyone. Last year our local series said you have to have your number on the front plate, so he went back to the truck and wrote his number on with magic marker in the corner above the bat and it just hasn't changed.

There's no question about his ability to ride, he flat out rips.

I like open face helmets better than full face helmets myself.

I used to wear one on and off a few years ago, I bought a quality open face helmet, there was several local races where I smoked everyone in the A classes wearing it, there was also a really fast guy from Ohio that wore one, I raced him a few times I think his name was Steven Richards maybe, he wore one dead serious about it too, I only wear mine when goon riding now, they are comfy though, till you land on your face, lol.

Much respect to ya, but you didnt do it racing the XC1 class at a GNCC; which is arguably one of the biggest off-road series stages besides WORCS,and do it as well as this guy. He's been wearing it this summer, not really a story, but when he stepped up to the stage like he did and do what he did, its flat amazing and deserves all the credit in the world. Especially at Unadilla, where "at night time ninja's go out and sharpen the rocks"

No pics or vids of the start though anybody!?

and its not the fact the kid rode with a half helmet, its the fact he showed up and competed as well as he did against mostly factory guys with fully prepped bikes, he had nothing but himself, his old beat gear, a bone stock bike pretty much that wasn't even cleaned that he rides everyday and his girlfriend pitting him. He wasn't lying when he said on the podium collecting his holeshot check that "its a one man team all the way around"

I thought about wearing mine before at a National, but I figured they wouldnt let me, in 2004 I was wearing that thing all the time, I was going to wear it when I tried qualifying for the last national at Kenworthy's but everyone was like they wont let you wear that thing, and now my wife wont let me wear it anymore, it scares her, LOL, so I am just normal unless I do the goon thing, LOL.

This guy sounds like a badass woods rider though, kind of looks like me in the photo with the beard and tongue sticking out its awesome, pretty embarrising him getting the holeshot on that thing, and doing that well against everyone there.

I considered wearing one in summer.....until I hit a tree and ended up with a mouthful of helmet....that pretty much made my mind up for me
9/14/2009 3:51pm
that photo is awesome!

would seem weird to go back to an open faced lid after waring full-face helmets for so long.

This guy was at a local race near me and he rode 250 novice and smoked pack by a mile and he also rode collegeboy with all the experts and was battling with them. We all called him batman!

This reminds me of a guy on RMD years ago that rode a XR650L with white spray-painted tires and wheels. He supposedly rode this street/trail bike hundreds of miles on the street to a hare scramble, raced for 3 hours, then rode back home on the same bike. Apparently he had a family and kids.. but was one card short of a full deck!

Yeah I didnt want to get into whats a better or faster series, they're each different.

But Ben actually purchased 2 pictures from the Racedaypix guy after the race, and it clearly shows the holeshot. Its an awesome picture so I'm waiting on the website to see what he puts up.

But I'm dissapointed with the GNCC website, they show a picture from the holeshot from the write up on the race with Paul Whibley looking like the leader after the first turn because Ben was just a hair outside of the pic, its such a bummer to see they didnt show him actually getting the holeshot. I know the kid didnt win the race, but its impressive and he did finsih quite well for doing it completly on his own with the equipment he has.

Ok this reminds me of a story that happened back in the 80's their was this guy that raced Hare Scrambles in either MO. or TN and wore rubber boots and would smoke the A riders on a CR480. Anyone heard of this guy?

Wearing an open face would be inspiration enough to get the hole shot, otherwise you would have teeth missing from the roost. That is cool looking goon for sure.
