Are you kidding me ? the 89 CR250 had the worst forks ever out of the box, they deflected off of everything and even with Hondas cone update it just made them livable. Blush

No I'm not kidding, the bike was good out of the box and for sure (i agree with you re the forks) the stock suspension cannot work for everyone. I had two 89 125s and one 250 and my suspension was revlaved a few times until we had it dailed. I felt most comfortable on those Hondas. I went back to Kawa in the early 90's and struggled.

Yep the first year of the upside down forks they were bad. Took half a season and two Honda updates to get them workable. But the rest of the bike was pure Honda and bulletproof. I still remember the first ride on my 250 and hit a small set of sharp rollers and it was like the bike turned left and off the track I went , same thing next lap but to the right, if you didnt hit square edge bumps head on you were in trouble.

88 and 89 were almost identical except for the forks so it could be either year because it has aftermarket WP forks. The 89 had upside-down SHOWAs and the 88 was conventional forks. I would think because someone replaced the forks that is would more likely be a 89 because 89 SHOWAs sucked but the 88 conventional forks worked pretty good

You might as well have just drained the oil out of those forks and filled them with concrete- the end result would have been virtually identical. Plus, the quick chassis made them feel even worse.

How can someone even ride that bike with that rusty axle nut?! Pinch

(Add that to “ things that’ll keep me up at night”)

It’s funny how we used to ride “in” the bike as opposed to how we now ride “on” them lol

The HPP engines were good. Substantially better than the older ATAC system.

Other than the forks the 89 was a great bike and after I fixed the forks on mine I loved it, fast and handled awesome and bullet proof.

Absolutely correct.
It was a good era to be on a Honda- right up until the 1997 aluminum frame disaster.

Someone may have painted them, but they did come as black.

Here is an example of a very low hr 89 showing the black rear caliper.

Those WP 4054 forks are from a euro bike, ATK, Husaberg, Husky, etc... if they were specific for a Honda they would have black billet lowers that used the stock Honda wheel and Nissin caliper. They’d have also come with billet triples from WP. Those are stock Honda triples. Either way they are far better forks than the stock Showa forks from 89.

Sounds like they have a good rep (apart from forks) and a desirable bike
In the UK there the cut off year for evo and prices are creeping up
