Do people really shoot clays with an AR-15?

Clays with an AR-15? Hell yeah. Line a box of them up in the 50 yard berm at the gun range and give the women a suppressed (SILENCER!!! for the anti gun loons) AR with a red dot sight and a 3X magnifier. Sit out a stack of 20 round mags and you'll hear nothing but laughs and giggles as they lay waste to a bunch of little targets. A total blast. What's best is when you get someone who has never shot a gun before in their life, someone who has been taught to be very very afraid of guns, and have them hitting first time every time. Then step them out to 100 yards. Good times.

The guy shoots himself because he's gonna be charged with domestic violence, and we're supposed to lay blessings on him?

I can't vouch for the tragic way things ended for him. I don't get it, and don't understand it. But I can see offering sympathy to his family and friends, who are likely suffering while trying to make sense of the loss, and how it all ended.
Brownstones comment really brings out the double standard types here on Vital. Had it been someone outside of moto committed the same crime of domestic violence against a female, gone to the police station and confronted police officers with a loaded weapon and selfishly made a spectacle of blowing his brains out, so many here would be quick to talk shit on them for being a POS and then also start blaming the gun. It's a damn shame someone was willing to kill themselves for whatever reason and a damn shame it had to be Tyler Evans. I'm sure this comment will get the thumbs down as well, but it will only be from the ones with clouded judgement.

His avatar specifically states AR-15, not M-16, so no...not assault rifle. Just a semi automatic one shot per trigger pull rifle like so many others.

Oh, the M-16? Talk about fun!

My best friend owns a range, but no I've never seen anything like that. He doesn't have people filling fridges with tannerite and shooting them either. We pretty much stick to shooting clays with a 12 gauge, out of the air. As you say, "demographics".

We’ve shot plenty out of the air with a 12 gauge as well. It’s a lot more fun with a antique single shot Belgian Poacher 410 though...under the lights...at night...out at the Joshua Creek Ranch in Boerne. The Beretta’s and Bernadelli got some workouts. Yeah, demographics.Wink

You'd serve yourself well to shut up about firearms until you learn something about them.

Brownie, you probably could have worded that a little more “tactically”(Wink ). Besides, Guy B has to know a good bit about guns, the fugger has the itchiest trigger finger of anyone I know.Laughing Ask me how I know....when you get back from vacation. Hopefully that won’t be long, he seems to be pretty smart...Smile

Actually the media and academia just changed their definition to suit their needs. Funny how that works.

This is what the ATF thinks about it: https://www.outdoorlife.com/gun-news-week-atf-says-assault-rifle-is-bog…

Colt AR15 SP1 Sporter Rifle was approved for sale on the civilian market on Oct 23rd 1963. It appears “sporting purpose 1” and ”sporter rifle” predate your NRA revisionist history

I never said AR stood for assault rifle.

In general, what classification would the gun shown above fall into?

I'm also moving this to the Dumbgeon...

In his avatar it clearly says "AR-15" and you said his avatar had an "assault rifle." I was just putting two and two together is all. . The AR-15 falls under the "sporting rifle" category. The purpose is for people who shoot at targets or clays as a hobby. Many times people don't use things for their intended purpose though. That's all I'm saying.

As much as I hate to involve myself in any sort of gun debate, I can't help myself on this one....

From the Wikipedia page for the AR-15, "In 1956, ArmaLite designed a lightweight assault rifle for military use and designated it the ArmaLite Rifle-15, or AR-15". The term 'modern sporting rifle' was coined by the NRA in 2009.

In one final ironic twist, it would seem that the people using it for shooting targets or clays are actually the ones who aren't using it for the intended purpose.

Anyways, carry on...

Sorry, and one last thing from dictionary.com: "assault rifle 1. a military rifle capable of both automatic and semiautomatic fire, utilizing an intermediate-power cartridge; 2. a nonmilitary weapon modeled on the military assault rifle, usually modified to allow only semiautomatic fire."

So yes, by definition an AR-15 is an assault rifle no matter what connotations you think that definition implies.
Wow, I own a lot of these and my plan and i hope that NONE of mine are ever used to Assault anyone or any animal Mine serve no purpose of Assaulting anyone or anything besides metal and paper targets.

Man I wish Tyler would have never done what he did. SadSadSad

LOL sure have, in fact an AR was just the beginning. We only went bigger from there. My favorite was the Thompson machine gun with a drum clip.

"Rampart" sounds like a Hood queens style ghetto cop shop. I though he was from Nor Cal or was living down in Corona moto area?

It was random girlfriend he was with- not baby momma.

I won’t post the video as it is easy to find, but the LAPD just posted the 3 officers bodycam footage of the incident with Tyler. There’s is also security camera footage included. The officers all pleaded with him to drop the weapon. They also tried a bean bag round, to no avail. He wasn’t complying with any of their requests. He was walking away from them towards a crowded intersection with his handgun. Having met him at the Vegas SX and being retired law enforcement, it was extremely sad to watch this unfold from multiple vantage points.

He would have eventually murdered her or some other chick. No loss. Things could not have ended better. Bad guy checks himself out and everyone else is safe.

You are missing a zero and a multiplier. Semi auto versions are not machine guns.
