I have been listening to a few of the Deegan podcasts lately, and he is real big on making the minimum age for Supercross 18, to me it seems reasonable, what other sports sign up 16 year olds to big contracts
There was a push for this few years back, but the pushback was huge from the top amateurs and some industry. I think its reasonable to start pro sx at 18. Careers are lasting longer than ever before, and some top guys coming in now are delaying their sx debut as it is now.
So maybe it is the right time to make it 18 now.
IMO, if you are ready young (like roczen was), you should be able to jump in. If you are not ready, you should stay down (plenty of recent pros have been 18+ when they turned). No need for a rule change.
Im cool with the 18 age limit. It doesn't change to much. Most of the sports mentioned don't compare. A soccor, tennis golf or f1 prodigy at 16-18 going pro will probably even in a failed 3 year in and out career make more then most of our top guys do their whole pro career. Skate and snow are different story in my opinion to.
Max Verstappen made his F1 debut at 17.
So maybe it is the right time to make it 18 now.
The Shop
Thats why we still have guys in the feeder class at 25.
If you are fast enough, you are good enough, its not like the Amatuer scene is properly amatuer is it.
