I noticed a bunch of pros clipping tuff blocks last night, osborne's get off looked brutal, but I was thinking none of their test tracks or practice tracks ever have tuff blocks so I wonder if that's kind of throwing them off a bit because they are used to making these corners and using all of the space. I know cross rutting and jumping happens but I wonder if it would make sense for them to use it for their practice tracks as well.

I believe it was Matthes that he the Idea to angle the top of them so they aren’t square so they don’t grab foot pegs so bad

Or skill. It takes a seasoned pro to get one properly placed.

Thought about posting this as well. Practice tracks should start using them.

Also AC9 landed on top of them in Race (Believe it was 2nd lap main was in back corner of TV veiw) but was able to ride off of it... so I see in his case the flat top was good and if angled he would have taken him down on the landing side of jump in front of 15+ packed up bikes

I counted seven guys hitting or landing on them

Funny I was trying to post this same thing this morning and had account log in issue....

I definitely saw him land on one and ride off it, just in the background early in the main.

So the pros should use tuff blocks on their practice tracks so they can get accustomed to hitting them and crashing?

Ok

Keeping them off the track would help, whoever was in charge of that section needs to pay attention to what went down. Osborne got screwed, they had the tough block(s) out on the damn track, IMO

Much safer.
I agree, but their sponsor money doesn't.

Won't help keep you from running into the opposing lane for a head on.

Yeah, but that’s more like just a suggestion than a boundary, man.

Ok
well would make more sense wouldn't it? they put start gates on some of those tracks so they can get a real feeling for the start. I mean it's minor but it seemed like they spoiled a few guys races tonight.

Those freaking tough blocks are a safety hazard for sure. They consistently do way more harm then good IMO.

The Tuff Blocks aren’t there for a soft spot to crash, they are there to stop a bike from going into another lane or into the crowd.

Because when they do their job, you don’t think twice about it and nobody mentions it. When something negative happens, everyone gets to talking about how bad they are because their favorite rider got caught up in them.

How about you stay on the track?

Crazy,I know, but ask how Indy car drivers feel about concrete barriers....

Freaking pansies.

Tuff Blocks sell advertising for Feld and are a dangerous hindrance to riders- as bad as the old car tyres we've all hit.

Time for something low profile and rounded- and that stacks - that is still a divider but not the cause of so many get offs and injuries.

They are there to be sold as advertising space

Exactly this! They’ve got a whole track, don’t ride into the tuff blocks.

Make them triangular (Toblerone) shape, still have the size and flat sides for sponsorship, don’t hook up pegs as easily.

After reading other replies and spending time in deep, undisturbed thought I have come up with the prefect solution to this perplexing crisis.

If the main problem is snagging foot pegs on them, then just remove them....

Not the tuff blocks silly, the foot pegs.

This would have the added benifit of making the racing even more interesting as well as make "seat bounce" so common even rc would stop talking about it.

Supercross (and maybe motocross too), you are welcome.

I know they are pros but if they stay on the track they would not be an issue.

I can’t work out why they wear crash helmets either....surely not crashing is a better solution.
