My buddy at Pro-Vue goggles was selling Gaernes at Diamond Dons Vintage Race and got me the hook up. Damn things are expensive though! And of course there were no size 13's to be found. Direct shipped from Gaerne arrived today. Sweet classic black. Damn Tech 8's of mine cracked and fell to pieces. Does Alpinestars have a self destruct date on the buckles and all the plastic? lol We'll see how these hold up.

Those boots are for sure bad ass. Had mine for like 4 years. Other than the white turning yellow from old age, they are flawless.

I had a pair of tech 8's, but I would wear through the soles in a couple of rides, so I bought some Fox F3's. I bought a pair of SG12's secondhand a couple of months ago and, so far, they are really good. They did take a little while to get used to though. To start with I felt like I had to really point my toes down to get under the gear lever but, now that I'm used to them, they just feel normal.

+1 on the Gaerne's. They are excellent! Nearly had my foot and ankle ripped off at an accident at I-81 a few years back. If not for these boots I woulda been crippled. Instead...I was able to race (and win) with a quarter pound of tape and ice packed in my boot. Good times!

Also.. I've never had an easier boot to break in. They were so comfortable I wore them to school the day I got them.

I have 13s as well. I fell your pain. When trying them on I thought the gaernes were slightly bigger than the Astars. I went with the tech 10s however because I just liked them better. I've still heard lots of good things about them. Good luck

You'll love them. I just wore my new SG12s last weekend for the first time, after one moto they felt broken In already. I brought along my old tech 8s just in case but now i'll never look back.
I find a sz 14 alpinestar very snug and the sz13 gaerne fits great.

when i was racing i had a sponsorship with Astar. when i stopped racing, i kept in good graces with them incase i ever needed new boots or got back into racing and needed sponsorship... until i bought my first pair of Gaerne's. sorry Astar, but my SG12's are hands down best boot ive ever worn. like freakin sneakers on my feet. never will go back to Astar's. Gaerne has a customer for life in this guy.

My Tech 8's cracked and fell to pieces. No more Astars for me, I bought a set of SG-10s and couldn't be happier. They fit like a slipper and wear like iron.

If the Tech 8's you are referring to, Newman, are the ones in your avatar, they are at the very least 7 years old. I would expect any boot to get ripped to shreds after that amount of time.

Pretty much only wore Alpinestars until about a few months ago, I got my first set of Gaerne SG 10's. All I can say is they are way more comfortable, and the break-in period is amazing. NEVER going back to A Stars!

my sg12's are way better than any alpinestars ive ever had before- tech 10s only used to last about 6 months, ive had around 18 months out of my sg 12s (they are pretty much worn out now though)

unfortunately cant justify the price tag to get another pair (got the last pair given as part of a sponsorship deal) so i'll probably go for a pair of tcx pro 2.1's next or some sg10s if i can get a really good deal (if i have to pay for them)

if money was no object i would buy another pair of sg12s definitely! best boots ive ever had by a long way (only pair that have ever lasted me more than 6 months)

anyone know of any shops in the states that are doing good deals on the sg12s at the minute?

Anyone have sg10/sg12 comparison. I've had good luck with the 10's, by far and away the best boot i've ever owned. What's different about the 12? Can you even get the 10 anymore?

I have both. The 12's have a slightly stiffer overall feel, not quite as flexible or broken in feeling as the 10's. The 12's are also slightly narrower or more snug in the toe box area. I have a wide foot and prefer the 10's for this reason.

All in all, the 10's are great boots and it is hard to justify the extra $100 for the 12's. Yes, they still make the 10's.

+1, the SG12's definitely run larger than the A-Stars. I originally got 12's in the SG12's but had to sell them and pick up 11's. I wear size 12 in Tech 8s. I'm probably going to go try Tech 10s next time. The SG12's are by no means bad, but I feel like A-Stars fit the shape of my foot better and I have more feel with them.

I have never owned a pair of Gaernes but I am positive they are awesome. However, I love my A-stars. I have every pair of them I've ever owned and none of them fell apart. I have one pair of boots that is about 12 years old and still intact. I don't wear the old ones anymore but I love my new Tech-8s.

Never had any problem with them wearing out the soles either. Very weird to keep hearing that. My assumption is that some of you have very sharp pegs. I run stockers and my boots are fine.

Oh, and my size 6 A-stars seem like a legit size 6. The only problem I have with them is fitting my cankles into the bootie. I am so fat that my leg goes from foot to "calf" immediately. There is no ankle. Also, my "calves" have a diameter of probably 25 inches.

Size 6 ? Do you have to wear the kid's size boots ? Smallest size I've ever heard of the Tech 8 or 10 coming in,was 7.

No, I special order them from Italy. They are made from a special breed of miniature cows that were bred by the nazis during the 40s for their exceptionally small, yet strong hides.

You will not be disappointed by the TCX 2.1's. I just came off of 2 pairs of Tech 10s, then Tech 8 Lights... my TCX's are way better than the last 4 A-stars ive had.

I love my SG12's like everyone else....one thing that I did notice is the toe box is very tall and I had to move my shifter up to cut down on misshifts. Because the toe is all plastic its hard to feel the shifter and that has led to a few close calls.

With that said, I am pretty much used to them and know what to expect. I did have to become more aware of my left foot, where it was positioned and shifting leading into a jump section.

Most comfortable and protective boot on the market I think.

That's not the only set of Tech 8's I've had. Both sets had buckles fail numerous times. First set the soles fell off of, second set are still in place. No leather ever wore out on either set, but the plastic/rubber all around the boots deteriorated and fell apart. The only area "ripped to shreds" was the inner foot area on the right boot has holes torn all the way through from kickstarting my 74 CR250. Not real impressed with that. Not a lot of use, not a lot of abuse. We had some Vectors years ago made mostly of plastic and they crumbled to bits, totally shit boot there. The Tech 7's we have....not impressed. I've bought a lot of A Stars over the years and while the SG12's may not be the only boots I try, I don't see me buying another set of Alpinestars.
