I've been thinking about how Feld runs Monster Jam and how this could relate to their ownership of Supercross.

Feld purchased all of Monster Jam. They own the tricks, they own the likenesses of the truck, they pay the mechanics, they pay the drivers. They hold 4-7 "Monster Jam" events each weekend during their season.

4 of the Monster Jam events are premiere class events and each has 8 trucks or 'teams' at the event. That's is 32 drivers and 32 trucks.

---------

Feld recently held a Supercross event at Anaheim 2 where they dramatically reduced the size of the starting night show field from the normal two classes of 'Fast 40' to 22 riders....

To me, this looks like Feld trying to narrow the field of competitors at each weekend's Supercross event so they can buy every team, bikes, and pay the riders after being paid by the sponsors and factories.

Just wild, wild speculation that I have come up with when comparing Supercross to Monster Jam, which are both owned by Feld.

Also, this is one of the worst logos I've ever seen....

Can't find much info about how Feld owns MJ but Matthes talked about it some time ago. I am basing my assumptions of MJ from his quotes on the show.

I think thats absurd and impossible because of the fact that the large companies that manufacture the bikes own the large teams and that is the main difference between supercross and monster jam

If this happens, there will be more Jesse’s drawing lines in the sand.

Someone alert NORAD.

This is wild speculation.

FELD buying all the SX teams and paying the mechanics and the riders? Never going to happen, the teams race an other series called the outdoor nationals.

Monster Jam might only have 32 riders and have shows at different places in the US at the same time but that wouldn't work for SX. Monster Jam drivers don't require the same amount of talent that SX riders do. If all the fast guys are at one stadium that one will be packed but if another SX race is going on in a different part of the country with B tier riders hardly anyone would show up at that race.

FELD Entertainment is a private company so you won't find much of anything concerning financials.

I can tell you one thing I’m absolutely 150% sure about is that IFF Feld bought the entire show and ran it that way like you wildly wildly speculated that would be the end of Supercross for me I would never watch it again thank God the outdoors still pure

I'm not saying they will make multiple Supercross events each weekend. I'm talking more about the number of riders in the night show being cut in half. That's a big deal

You do have a point in the cutting of riders leading to a cut in cost and work. Unfortunately, I lost the enthusiasm to keep going when they cut the day qualifier races and the inherent track changes that ensued with the timed qualy's.

Perhaps Feld wants the lower 36 riders to go to Arena Cross? Does Feld own ArenaCross?

Plenty of options for the lower 36 riders.

I heard AX entries are too many as it is.

Kinda weird that there are so many “pros” come SX race weekend. But if you went to a local race in SoCal, that offers payback, you see like 3 entrees.

All “36” Jesse’s of the world should be racing these local races every weekend. Cheaper cost of entry, easier chance of winning.

"Feld will buy the teams" Are they going to also develop and build the bikes just like they do the trucks in Monster Jam?

I understand your concern, but it's not going to happen. I had a very informative chat with Kenneth Feld at the MEC and I can tell you that he has a huge amount of respect for Supercross, the teams and athletes involved. He also clearly recognizes the major differences between monster trucks and motocross along with their respective audiences (the fact that Monster Jam is mainly entertainment, while SX/MX is a participatory sport wit it's own endemic fan base and industry).

Any changes Feld/AMA make to the program is simply to keep things interesting. They are continuing to play around with formats and while not everything is going to be gold, I believe it's great to see some variety in the format after it had been stagnant for so long.

I don't think 80 people have signed up per class in a long time.

It looks that it is a possibility for sure. I think the evil conspiracy end game is to have a traveling stadium circus show that can travel internationally and MXGP becoming the only outdoor series.

Won't happen
OEM's won't allow it, because then, like MJ, there'd be standardization of equipment and if you've ever been "backstage" at MJ, youquickly realize "it's a show," and not a competition....you think the teams and racers are going to "lay up" so "Racer Y" could win this week?

MJ is purely a show, ask anyone who's participated either at the truck level or even the "quad wars" level...it's motorized WWE

The key factor being left here is the fact that the sole purpose of SX is to promote and develop a consumer product. MJ only exist because of the wow factor. You can't run down to your local dealer and buy a monster truck. Manufacturers are involved in racing to sell their bikes, plain and simple. Sales drop and they aren't funding race teams and bike development stops. Suzuki is the perfect example. Economy tanked, bike sales dropped, and Suzuki pulled out of racing. Now 10 years later, Suzuki is not 100% back in. They are just offering support to JGR and there's been very little development on their bikes in the last decade. yes, I know the 450 is new but be honest about it. They didn't spend much on R&D on that bike and it shows.

If you are correct and they did buy the series, I'd fully expect the manufacturers to stick together and form a new series.

80 to 44 rider limits =

Less track maintenance
Less pit space needed
Less safety/security crew to police smaller pits
Less rider/industry seating

= More profit for Feld

Probably other stuff but you see where this is going and I don't really care to put much more thought into it because it is irritating.

This is very wild speculation, that's for sure. Think of this:

SX riders are paid by their sponsors. Dirt bike companies, clothing companies, parts, accessories etc. Most of which are dirt bike related. I.e. there's a market to be had.

Monster trucks? Not so much. Sure they have a few sponsors but no one's out looking to sell/buy monster trucks, monster truck clothing (minus event related merchandise obviously), monster truck parts etc. That's why feld can essentially pay their drivers, there's really no sales competition. Monster jam is more of a family event which appeals to small children. It's entertainment, think like a circus, more than an actual competition. I'm not interested in monster jam at all but my 4 year old son loves it.

Monster truck racing and supercross are the same, just like MMA and WWE are the same.

From a business perspective, they both run inside stadiums on dirt tracks. That's about where the similarities end.

Some seem to have forgetten the great "AMA vs Jam Sports Supercross War" and how that all worked out and why
1/24/2018 8:56am
I know that Feld actually approached team managers a few years ago looking to do this. Obviously nothing came of it, but for you guys that say this would never happen, watch what you say...

They made it harder for pro riders to get a license to race supercross a few years back. They didn't want guys on the track trying to qualify that couldn't even triple.
