Are these to be removed at some point, or are they there for life? I really pray that he has a safe year and keeps it on two wheels. His luck needs to turn, he's crazy fast but also one of the most approachable and nicest guys in the pits.

His physicians both feel that at some point, he may want them out, but it won't be necessary. The screws will probably "fail" at some point, but they don't think this will be an issue. I know it sounds scary, but this is the advice of two neuro orthopeodists, so that's what we'll go by. The fracture was in the middle of the back, and I think that may be why they are okay.

Does he still have back pain if you don't mind me asking? I broke a couple "T" vertebrae a little over 5 years ago and it still hurts every day.

No, not really. Mostly when he does mundane daily tasks like picking up a box, . . . it gets a little sore. Riding does not seem to hurt at all. He tries to sit and stand extremely straight, and his back and abs are incredibly strong.

Although I am no pro, I ride with 10 screws, 4 rods, and 2 plates in my neck. Have had them for 5 years now.

Docs also told me that the screws are good for about 15 years, max.

Good luck to Trey this year!!!

Can I simply say that it's extremely cool to have Trey's mom on here and the "inside" info she shares is very interesting? I know most professional athletes and celebrities tend to stay guarded. You ma'am and your family are a breath of fresh air.

Haha. Thank you, but I'm sure I've made a lot of people mad as well. I tend to be a little opinionated

I broke my leg last year and the hardware really bothered me and hurt. I had it all removed exactly a year later and not I'm pain free.

But I also broke my back in 2006 in it still bothers me everyday. But no pain compares to having herniated discs in my lower back! They are driving me crazy!!

Nah, I've had three boys. None of them gets away with much, especially Jaxon since I've already heard all the excuses.

Trey had almost all of the other hardware removed back in the early spring (screws in femur, plate in collar bone, plate on wrist). I've haven't asked him lately but I'm sure he's glad he did.

Oh wow. Those were some good days. Add in Lemoine, Hackley, Cunningham, Marburger, Gilliam, Terbush, Green, Jonan. Some I left out I know. Those were epic battles. Unfortunately, one thing I have never been able to do is take pictures.

Same hardware my brother has ( 2 rods and 6 screws), he did all his physical therapy for a year but decided not to ride again for a while. That injury freaked him out and he was done with mx, difference with trey of course is he's a professional rider and has a goal and commitment , my bro was just a fast weekend warrior. Good luck trey .. keep it on 2 bro.

Didn't he win the 450 race when Travis was here?

Trey is a Roman Gladiator. Man that kid is tough. Talk about the heart of a champion...jeez. I hope he gets on the box over and over this year. Seeing him win would be a real testimony to faith, courage, and tenacity. Money cannot buy those things.

Trey is the baddest dude on the track...hands down.

Momma, you must be incredibly proud of that kid....its one thing to become the best at what you choose to do, its a completely different level to make it and handle yourself the way Trey does....kid is a damn inspiration to everyone. He is a class act and i could never see Trey win enough races....Best of luck to you all this season, WHEN is steps on that top step again, the entire motocross world will be proud.

I had Harrington rods put in my back and a rib removed to use for bone marrow to grow a new L1, I asked because I was interested in knowing if that's what he had.

BTW, just thought you might want to know that Trey visited my stepson, Bryce Vallee, when he was in the hospital for 6 weeks recovering from the horrific accident that ended his pro career. Trey really brightened a very dark time for him. Wish more riders were like Trey!!!!
