I am going on vacation with my wife and then heading south to ride. While with my wife we will be staying in a neighborhood. I will have to leave my bike on the utility trailer for 3-4 days. I am planning on using a chain and lock. Looking for some other safety measures. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!

You have to hide it. Cover it, find someone with a garage, rent enclosed u haul trailer?

Hide a gps locator on the bike. So, if it gets stolen, you can track it to where it is. I definitely wouldn’t leave it on a trailer. A chain won’t stop a thief.

1) Never leave your bike in the open
2) Chains and locks don't work
3) Always carry theft insurance

Take off the seat and the handlebars. Make it un-rideable and difficult to push or load…..

Unfortunately now a days what you’re considering carriers a high likely hood of having your bike stolen. Please forget the idea of bringing your bike unless you find a suitable way to store it. I hate hearing about these stories of people getting their bike jacked.

Maybe worth contacting local bike shop to see if you can store it for a few days..? The right shop might be willing to help you out.

Just park it in the house…or if that just isn’t possible, park it in a fenced back yard…and if thosr aren’t possible…tear it apart…pull off the wheels, the handlebars, the seat…keep those in your trunk and then lock the frame/engine to with your chain….

A firearm would be a wise idea, but you live close enough to Baltimore to know that.

No way I’d chance my bike left on a trailer! Buy a bunch of hay bales and stack em like an empty box w your bike in the middle. Nobody w know it’s in there. Take it to the track like that, donate the bales to the track.

Enclosed trailer or bring the bike inside. I wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing my bike was locked up on an open air trailer.

In all likelihood it will probably be fine just locked on the trailer if you're not in a city/high traffic area, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take extra steps if you can.

For what it's worth I travel all over the east coast with my bike in the bed of my truck with a 10ft cable and lock. I try to make it unappealing for opportunistic thieves by running the cable through the frame, wheels, my ramp, gas can, etc and back the truck up to a wall or something so that you can't unload it easily. If I'm staying at a hotel I'll park where I'm not visible from the highway, and just generally try to minimize the number of eyes that notice the bike. I tend to put the plastic filter cover for washing on the bike, that way it doesn't start if someone where to try. There are tons of small steps that you can take to lower the risk by using your head. If you can move the bike into the house, behind it, or somewhere else out of sight I would do that.

This bike was left outside my hotel at the Atlanta SX. I was pretty surprised. Didn’t look locked either.

First you will sleep like shit and be constantly getting up and looking out the window. Been there done that.

Locks are made to keep honest people honest. If a thief wants it they will have tools to do what they have to do too get it.

Back in my Supercross and national days we would get a hotel room and Curt Barons dad slept in the sleeper in the box van. One night I think it was a Kenworthys someone got in drivers seat that had hair that looked like mine. He said Steve what are you doing and the guy jumped out and he chased him but the guy was gone. Hotel called the police and police said ya we know who he is and he breaks in all the time.

Rent a youhaul trailer. Out of sight out of mind.

One reason I NEVER put decals on my van too. Why tell them what’s inside. The Moto Hose box van had a great alarm.

Reason I bought a Newmar 3927 motorhome versus a Thor Outlaw was the Thor Outlaw had an obviously visible back garage door. The back of my Newmar looks looks like a regular RV so thief’s dont think there is something valuable back there.

Bingo. Criminals have tools, insure it. Take it inside somewhere if possible

How fucking sad that this is where we are at as a society. Good luck partner, I hope you’re able to take your possession and use it as intended without some asshole thinking it’s acceptable to steal it.

No matter what, none of the hiding, locking, storing will cover you as well as insurance. It’s seriously cheaper than a heavy duty lock and does a better job.

I have alarmed disc locks that go off at 120db when the bikes get moved. That with a kryptonite chain and lock should go a long way to keeping it secure. I'd also put the bike on a stand in the truck bed and take both wheels off too
