Anyone using transit to haul bike and camp? Would love to see some pics. Want to see if I can get away with medium roof lwb with a bed over bike. And have room for a bench/mini fridge. Want to see if I can get away with not getting the high roof, since I’m finding the MR cheaper.

Also, will the MR fit in parking garages?

I want bed over bike to be able to sleep 2 comfortably with the bike inside. Maybe a lift bed that can be lowered without bike for more comfort.

I've had my 148" WB MR Transit for close to three years now and sleep in it quite a bit. I didn't do the bed over the garage and I'm not sure if it's possible in the MR.

This is my favorite motovan build and it has the bed over the garage...if only I could do it all over again. Sigh.

I wonder how tall the inside of that van is compared to MR transit. That’s an absolutely sick setup.

I have a high roof 148" with the bed above the garage area, my buddy has a medium roof 148" and uses a cot. Not sure a bed over the bikes in a medium would be worth it. For what its worth, our fuel mileage is like 1mpg off. We both have the 3.7

Do you have hr extended or regular? Would love to see some pics. The savings would be in the initial investment. Not worried about gas. I’m finding a lot of used MR as opposed to HR for much cheaper. Also thinking I could get into parking garages in MR and not HR

im working on getting ya some pictures. Not gonna be many parking garages if any you'll get in to at over 9 feet tall. Also rules out every drive through i've seen (at least around here) I have a high roof 148" regular. Only way i could see getting the bed over the garage in a medium roof would be to get an extended, load the bikes in backwards and build the bed over the seats but behind the bars (hope that makes sense)

Nice dude! I like that. Was thinking something similar with seating bench under one side of the bed that can have batteries/storage in it. Yeah I guess I’m going to have to find a HR.

thanks man. Yea, its mine. My wife and I bought it as a bare panel van and did all the work ourselves. Im far from good at stuff like this but we made it work. Its a pretty modest build compared to some but for what i use it for its perfect. Ill probably redo it some day and fix some things but so far we love it

All of my electrical runs into the right side of that cabinet. I put it there because the starter battery is under the drivers seat of the van and i use a voltage sensitive relay to charge my house battery. Made running cables easier and shorter to put it there.

With a Medium roof i can fit through all the fast food drive-throughs. I use it as a daily and a family road trip vehicle so i dont have it built specifically for moto. I have one 3 person bench seat behind the drivers seat i also have a second bench seat but its mounted sideways (along the side wall). Both click in and out easily but they are some heavy seats.
i can actually turn the first bench around and make it into a party wagon.

I was curious about adding a bench seat. What makes a seat legal in a van? Like I can’t just have a futon or self built plywood bench that people can ride on down the road right?

Don’t think you can do bed above bikes in a medium roof and definitely no parking garages. I’m at the max of almost every parking garage I go in with my Econoline and sometimes I find ones I don’t fit in at all.

When I was building mine I measured for doing a bed above the bikes. I recall there being like 10" or so between the bed and ceiling if you build the platform an inch or so above the bars. We thought about it for 2 seconds after we measured and said no way.

not sure what make it legal or not. I used factory ford seats which suck lol. but they have both ends of the seatbelt built into them. I used factory brackets so i can click them in and out. I drilled through the floor and used a large and heavy backing plate on the underside then painted and undercoated it to prevent rust. i think from factory they actually weld an L shape bracket to the frame and bolt through that.

I have the 148 MR. I don't care for the Transit middle seat at all, and it weighs 4000lbs. lol

This is how I did mine...

I sent you a pm, so hit me up if you have any questions. I'm currently building my medium roof, medium length transit up. It does have a bed over the bikes, bikes go in backwards which is different. But I wanted to be able to keep the bikes in there, and have them sealed off from the sleeping area so I can travel and sleep with the bikes safely stored and not breathing gas fumes. Ill take pics and post them as soon as I figure out how to haha

Your last picture looks a lot like the Washougal pits.

Lots of transit builds at the transit forum, including moto builds.
