I've been to all of the National circuits except Freestone but my track knowledge outside of these venues is somewhat limited.
Over the years I have seen Mammoth suggested numerous times but am curious what other tracks you think are National caliber and why?

Their track is 3 miles long, nice loamy sandy dirt and not too far from a freeway.
they cut their schedule this year, but everyone in the midwest is hoping they are back in 2012/

The two represent the choice dilemma. Sears (okay, Infineon, but I grew up with Sears) is a facility blessed with natural terrain, infrastructure, access from a couple major roads and relatively near a three airports (Sac, SF and Oakland). Hollister is more remote off a two lane highway, has less infrastructure and requires a bit of the core-moto mountain goat attitude to get to the track proper. Not sure the old GP track is really big rig accessible.
I think there probably are a lot of tracks that are pro national worthy, or readily so with some prep work, but which don't and can't realistically have the access, transportation hubs or infrastructure and space for fans and teams.
Was that actually a track,or were they thinking of just building a track for this purpose....
The talk sorta just went away.
(On a side note.
Another thing I hope I live to see is....The MXoN's held at Washougal, just once. )
Pit Row
Swan is hard packed, Cycle Ranch is sandy loam.
Both are well with in of some decent infrastructure.
Bull Run.
The stuff below is from 2008.

Description: Barber already holds some vintage dirt bike races and of course they hold superbike and car races on their first class roadcourse, but plans are moving forward to build one of the best motocross tracks in the nation. Here is a quote from a Birmingham News article from April 2008. "Ground for the motocross track already has been roped off in a clearing overlooking the existing paved course, and officials are beginning to study other dirt bike tracks in what Barber said is a plan to one-up the competition. Work on the track for motocross could begin later this year (2008). 'I want it to be the world's best," Barber said last week. "It can't be anything less.'"
The Barber Motorsports Park Motorcycle Museum, which is also located at this facility, is one of the finest motorcycle museums in the world.

Sounds like a good place for a national.
Seems like from May til the end up September it could & would more then likely be like Texas heat conditions...only more humid.
Didn't gator back used to run in March...while the SX series was still going on
(when the series over lapped each other)?
Problem is they are way up in MAINE!! Also they would have to extend out the track and have better all around viewing which would take lots of $$$
Pro tracks with over 2 minute laptimes are sooooooo 1990's
It's a conspiracy to take out a title contender that has bike problems with the stupid "a lap down" rule.
It came within 15 seconds of taking out the 2011 AMA 450 Motocross champion.....hehe
