Track fees being raised in the Southern California region

So I just ready an email I received today from the Milestone group which announced that a group of the most popular tracks in Southern California will be raising their practice fees by $5 (from $25 per practice day to $30) on August 1st. These tracks include Milestone MX, Perris Raceway, Cahuilla Creek, Pala Raceway, 212 Land, Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park, LACR, Competitive Edge MX, and Sunrise MX.

This got me thinking, what were practice fees like throughout the 70s, 80s, and even early 90s? Being that I was born in 1992, I don't really have much info towards that. I remember when track fees were $20 when I was on minis, and right about the time I jumped on full-sized bikes the price bumped up to $25 a-pop.

It's 25 here in BFE michigan...... and real estate is 25% of the Socal values.

our shit ass tracks here that aren't national caliber are all $30 to ride in western pa. and practice is from like 10-3 on weekends or 4-8 on a week day. to me that's very over priced for the short amount of riding time. and some require a $5-$10 yearly membership.

I'm surprised it took so long.... It was $10 to get into Indian Dunes in 1978 and I can remember it going up to $12 in 1980ish. It's been $25 for a very long time.

There were no practice days in the 70's, 80's. You practiced your 4 or 5 laps and had your motos on SUNDAY.
You did not get to practice non race days at Hi Point, Steel City, Pleasure Valley, Penny Hollow, Rocky Ridge, Harbor Woods
$20-$30 at the few practice tracks that are available today.

It's getting a bit ridiculous now. I paid 30 bucks this weekend and the track prep was horrible. Prices will creep up. I would think 30 would be the new norm in the next year or so.

baja acres when it first ran practice days in 90's was $10 a bike. $5 or $10 a person to enter grounds. something of that sorte. I believe now its $25-30 to ride most tracks around here now for the day. gets you like 4-5 20 minute sessions.

I know people are going to be mad but $30 is cheap for the risk and expense the track operators go through.

just wanted to add this. my fast pass membership is going up to $80.00 a month. I try to bring my step son out to the track to, but dam I don't think I can afford to do this anymore. 10,000.00 bikes 2500.00 for gear. maint $ ect $. Damm.

I remeber going 3 motos in 73 and 74. Also remember indian dunes and muntz opened 7 days dusk to dawn. Open on xmas day. And 3 dollars per bike at one time.

$30 doesn't seem too out of line today.

Once KCRP Mx reopens on Sept 6th, after our summer shut down, we will continue on with $25 per rider. Smile

$25-$30 a day here in East Texas for most tracks. It was $15 for tracks in the early 2000's. Most the tracks prep really good.

For me, in the 80's and early 90's, practice days didnt really exist. Practice was at someones house or other informal places. Track time was gained through racing.

Personally, I think racing would see a resurgence if practice days weren't on option. I mean, if it went back to racing for track time and not practice, you wouldnt really have another option but to race.

However, the prepped practice phenomenon is a bell that can't really be unrung.

I agree with you...hell a ski ticket these days costs 100 bucks and a round of golf about the same.

If people want to keep riding they should be happy to pay a bit more, instead of watch a track starve and die. I do agree that the maintenance needs to be raised to a hire standard at those tracks that do charge more.

Out west there is always a piece of BLM land, or an old quarry that is free. So the cheap asses can go ride that clapped out dust bowl. I imagine its the same in other parts of the country too.

Your getting off easy out here in the mid Atlantic every track has a yearly membership fee on top off your 30 to ride no membership add another 10 for a day membership

Not in the midwest....in 72-73 I rode a Yamaha MX100 in both 100 and 125 Am classes. After turning pro, I rode my 250 in the open expert (local races) class pretty regularly...

The local track here is owned by the Muni and is free to ride Mon-Fri. It only gets prepped on Saturday, when it is closed. Mid-week conditions are about what you'd expect at a former quarry that gets blasted by wind 24/7.

I'm fine with $30 to ride these well maintained tracks with flaggers. I got that email from LACR and replaced back saying that I have no problem with the price increase and thanked them for all the effort they put in. LACR also stated, "A portion of this fee will go into a special fund that will go right back into making YOUR facility that much better. "

Win win for everyone.

Yikes, only $5, but that 20% increase. Can you imagine everybody raising their prices 20%(?)
With GDP growth and cost of living adjustments both well under 2%, track entry better stay at $30 for the next 10 years.

But if all those cheap asses go ride the clapped out dust bowl, that means less revenue at the gate, concession, etc., which then leads to either closing the track, fewer track days, or charging even more in entry fees. Be careful what you ask for.

Glen Helen just raised their price to $25, and its not broken practice! Ride all day, wherever you want, I like them!
