If people want to keep riding they should be happy to pay a bit more, instead of watch a track starve and die. I do agree that the maintenance needs to be raised to a hire standard at those tracks that do charge more.

Out west there is always a piece of BLM land, or an old quarry that is free. So the cheap asses can go ride that clapped out dust bowl. I imagine its the same in other parts of the country too.

But if all those cheap asses go ride the clapped out dust bowl, that means less revenue at the gate, concession, etc., which then leads to either closing the track, fewer track days, or charging even more in entry fees. Be careful what you ask for.
I hear ya and I am not asking for that. Most likely the guy who can't/won't pay 50 bucks, also won't pay 25. So at least there is still somewhere for them to ride. That being said I enjoy riding the dust bowl on occasion too.

In my mind there is an opportunity for a new model that mimics a golf club. Our sport has progressed to the point that facilities like those in Cairo, Georgia can be successful all over the country.

Plus a $60 yearly membership or $20 day membership at Millville. I don't remember what Etown charged.

I'd just be happy to have 10 tracks within driving distance lol

I'd love to have that many quality tracks so close. We are pretty lucky in D14 Michigan but cali has it best.

Yeah, I like the club model as well. None have existed in the areas I lived in, but makes a lot of sense for true enthusiasts who wants to get the best bang for their buck.

$5 at my local track. Granted it's nothing close to national calliber but five dollars to practice corners and basically have a track to yourself is awesome to me. There are hoses you can use and keep a section or two nice to practice on. I'm not upset about bigger tracks like Glen Helen charging $25... They do a lot to keep the tracks maintained and they essentially race every weekend.

membership/club model is built around insurance. if you're a club member, its tough to sue yourself.

i joined a working membership of our local private raceway about 20 years ago. took me 15 years of both membership fees (150-250 annually) and working the races/practice days. at the time i thought it was steep and it was hard work, but now i'm a lifetime member and don't pay membership fees or have to work (i still volunteer time to time). it's nice knowing i can go ride any time i want and not have to pay a dime. open practice fees are around $25-$30 i believe.

the downside to that is we have maybe 3-4 tracks within 2 hours. this is also a big reason why i started riding offroad and dual-sport.

In the 80"s growing up and racing in Albuquerque NM we had it made. I could go to several different tracks that ran races and practice for free as most of them were ciyy run. If we didnot want to practice at those tracks we would go out into an open field and lay out your own track. Off the top of my head i can think of close to 20 tracks in the Albuquerque area alone. The sad thing is that today most of those tracks are long gone due to development.

100 bucks for family of 4 pass. The track is groomed 2-10 times a year. You have to water it yourself . If you get 1 or 2 buddy's around it is 1 hr to water with fire hoses

The price would probably have to go up for access to all these tracks, as the current $80 a month wouldn't be enough to spread between that many tracks.

So I just ready an email I received today from the Milestone group which announced that a group of the most popular tracks in Southern California will be raising their practice fees by $5 (from $25 per practice day to $30) on August 1st. These tracks include Milestone MX, Perris Raceway, Cahuilla Creek, Pala Raceway, 212 Land, Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park, LACR, Competitive Edge MX, and Sunrise MX.

This got me thinking, what were practice fees like throughout the 70s, 80s, and even early 90s? Being that I was born in 1992, I don't really have much info towards that. I remember when track fees were $20 when I was on minis, and right about the time I jumped on full-sized bikes the price bumped up to $25 a-pop.
Zero. All hill tracks.

I had an annual pass for Saddleback Park back in the day (mid '70s). I think it was $325. So sweet to go out after school and slip in a ride before it got dark!

I looked in the Cycle News Archive and in 1969 it was $2.50 to ride / $1.50 for juniors and minis. Laughing

As for the $5 increase - $30.00 is still a small price to pay to ride a decent track.

hmmmm.....

As far as I am aware, all of these tracks are held and operated independently of each other.

Now you have independent, competing suppliers, selling the same product in market that is of low variety working collectively to set higher product pricing?

This is THE definition of price fixing.

There are certain antitrust laws that protect consumers from these scenarios.

EDIT: If "The Milestone Group" holds all of these tracks through its firm, the above is null and this situation is simply a product price increase.

Oh and there were a good 10 tracks and Sx tracks that were built in the hills from North LA Santa Clarita area to the mexican border.

You just had to know where to go. Most were illegal but back then no one cared because everyone had dirt bikes it seemed.
