Not sure how to type this up, as it's fucking surreal, but found out today that we lost TWO absolute pillars of the New England motorcycle scene this weekend.

Pete Collins, Pete24 here on Vital, passed away racing at NHMX this weekend. Pete was also the owner of Pete's Cycle and Sled and a huge member of the NE MX scene.... I remember running into his little shop for emergency parts and repairs and just loving the absolute character of the place. The kind of shop you just wanted to sit around in, drink beers, and soak up the moto vibe.

I also found out about the passing of Scott Mullin, manager/owner of Souhegan Motorsports in NH who passed away while roadracing at Loudon... Scott and I raced together and sort of entered the roadracing scene at the same time.. and he was a multiple time champion and fixture at the track. He leaves behind his wife Sarah and two young kids, Reese and Chase. Unbelievable.

Both men passed racing in NH this weekend.
Both men ran #24, and raced Kawasakis.
Both men owned local motorcycle businesses
Both men had similar last names "Collins" and "Mullin"

I seriously felt like my Facebook was messing with me... ::shakes head:: Motorcycle racing can be a real tough sport to love sometimes..

Race in peace gentlemen, you'll be missed.

Absolutely unreal. My condolences to the friends and family.

Yup bad deal all around 👎

8/2/2021 2:06 PM

Damn, that’s heartbreaking. Pete24 and I sold each other some parts a few times. He seemed like a great dude. So sorry to hear this.

As i said in the other thread, Pete24 was the only guy off here that i got to meet at MX Rewind in 2019, and we had a beer and some banter, he was a cool guy with some cool friends, and he had a killer WR500 that was just the sweetest sounding air cooled bike i ever heard or saw.

RIP Pete, you will be missed.

So sorry to hear this, rip 24s

God speed Brothers. Vital Pete gave me a shock spring one time and shipped to Texas. Super nice guy when emailing him back and forth.

Pete24 was one of the good guys around here, he will be greatly missed. Condolences to his friends, family and acquaintances.

I was shocked and devastated to get the call at roughly 5pm yesterday about Pete Collins (Pete24) death at NHMX. He was one of my oldest racing buddy's and just a long time great friend and sponsor of mine. I've known him since 1981. I've probably talked with 75 or so people since yesterday and we're all just devastated and numb. He was truly one of the great guys and a great person. I still can't believe that he's gone. I spoke with him on Sat about a ride day that was happening today and then again at 3pm yesterday to doublecheck if I could go. Little did I know that roughly after his 3:03pm text reply to me that he'd be dead an hr later. It's just not fair. You will NOT find a person with a bad word to say about him. RIP old friend..... :-( :-(

So very sad to hear. RIP Pete and Scott.
Condolences out to both families and to those of you here that had a personal connection to both gentlemen. Sorry for your loss

8/2/2021 3:12 PM

So very sorry to hear and was hoping for the best. I knew neither of the gentlemen but I always loved reading Pete’s posts, he seemed a true good man.
I certainly hope that their families can find peace at such a tragic time. My only solace is that they both passed on their bikes. Rest in peace brothers.

Godspeed Pete24….

Rest In Peace moto brothers.

Pete was a great guy on here. Very sad news hearing this. God speed to the both of them , and condolences to all their family and friends.

And there goes Jeffro. One of God's own prototypes. A super high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

24 and Green…road racer and an mxer…
Say,”When”. I’ll take a stash of’em.

I’m very sorry for the loss to the Moto-Sled-Dudes hanging out and “just being dudes scene” in the NH neighborhood. I hope y’all never forget these guys and find…make a way to keep “their vibe” alive.

Nobody ever told me, I found out for myself. You've got to believe in foolish miracles. It's not how you play the game, it's if you win or lose. You can choose. Don't confuse. Win or lose. It's up to you!

My god that is horrible news. Thoughts and prayers to all that knew them. RIP gentlemen

RIP Pete & Scott. Condolences to the family and friends.

Hopefully family and friends can carry the torch for these guys and continue involvement in each respective motorsport, sounds like both these guys loved their sport and my guess is both riders would have wanted it that way.

Rest easy. My friend was a mechanic for Scott. He said the accident happened in front of his family too. 😢

8/3/2021 5:45 AM

Awful news. Heard about it yesterday. RIP to both and their friends and families.

Argh. That’s got to be awful.

Not to derail the thread, but do any of you on here know Jerry Randall? Owns Valley Motorsports in Northampton, MA. I heard he got torn up pretty good road racing a couple months back, wondering how he’s doing. He’s in his 70’s so presumably any high speed wreck isn’t great
