Tony was a bit over the top in the 90s...but hey, he created the most dominant amateur racer and a multiple championship contending pro. Mike had a lot of bad breaks that derailed his confidence in his early pro years, even little things like him switching to that old ktm his first pro year, imagine Mike Alessi on a factory Honda, or heck, he got top 5 in his first ever pro race in the 450 class...they could have had alot more sx success in that first year on a privateer Honda 250f...they had the amateur money still I'm sure
Not to stir shit but there is a picture of Mike on a MCR bike with a caption that says "Mike Alessi on KTM" among other typos. That being said I really enjoyed the article.

If you read on you will see that he’s giving his thoughts on his time at ktm

Good read, thanks for posting! Tony comes clean about the lasergate, he seems like a respectable man and achieved a lot in the sport. Did he ever ride himself? I'd like to know more about what got them into the sport.

Yes he raced, I was looking at old Cycle News magazines a few years ago and Tony was listed in the 80cc class (Intermediate I think, maybe Expert?) with a top 3 at Indian Dunes (from what I recall- it was years ago I read it).
But yes Tony did race in the mid-1980's at least on 80cc bikes. Did not see his name in any other issues that I recall.
He podiumed at Steel City in his second pro 450 race behind Windham and RC. I was there, and WIndham and RC seemed to be pointedly ignoring him. He was so hated at that time.

Hard not to like this Tony Alessi
