This week on the Pulpmx.com Show we have the father of one of the top riders in the sport in Tony Alessi on the line tonight as well as the longest tenured mechanic on the AMA circuit in Tony Berluti who will be in-studio all night. Also, former factory rider turned super agent Jimmy Button will call in with his take on the wild and crazy St Louis supercross.
Listen in live on-line at pulpmx.com as hosts Steve Matthes and Kenny Watson review the St Louis supercross, talk to Tony about his sons Mike and Jeff, the rumors surrounding them, the KTM 350 and much more. Berluti will be on-hand for all of you to hear about his amazing career and how Michel Pichon’s dad almost hit him in the head with a shovel. To cap it all off, Jimmy Button will let us know his opinion on the state of the sport and when silly season will start.
You’re going to have the chance to talk to Alessi, Berluti, Button, Watson or Matthes by calling in to (702) 586-7857 tonight. Have something on your brain for one of the above people? Feel free to pick the phone up and bring your best questions.

Any one remember a few years ago, you would be listening to the SXLive! webcast and it would just disconnect you? Then you would try to reconnect and it would say Buffering for 2 or 3 minutes, then play, and you might or might not get disconnected again?
I can tell you exactly why. And the reason is a classic example of how something should work on paper and how it actually works in the real world.
You were getting disconnect due to server overload.
How a webcast works: you have a source for all the audio, Weege and Holley. They are connected to a computer running an encoder (typically Windows Media Encoder 9 at that point - this is one of the few Windows products that is solid and reliable, research it). That encoder "captures" the audio its given, encodes it, and "pushes" it to a streaming server. Listeners then connect to that streaming server, and get to listen in.
The problem? On paper, 1 server should be able to handle, based on an average audio bitrate of 90kbps, about 5000 people. On paper, and by calculator, it should handle that. In the real world though, you can realistically only reliably connect about 3000 people at a 90kbps bitrate. I wont get uber-geek technical, if you want to know why, email me. The best way I can relate it is this, and it also clearly shows you why the SXLive! had problems.... on paper, a chevy 350 engine can rev to 10,000 rpm. Real world, it can do it, the question is, for how long? Same thing with a server box. It can connect 5000 people, but the question is, for how long until something has to give. So it cant take it anymore and it starts dropping connections until it can recover and stabilise.
Most good hosting companies now have load sharing. The PulpMX Show is with someone that does also. We can, god willing, handle up to 15,000 active listeners no problem because our server provider, at no additional charge, will load share up to 4 extra servers if needed. Now we still have to pay for the bandwidth on those servers, it comes off our total wether its 1 server or 5. Hopefully tonight.... we max out! lol
