With how great he is looking this year and how improved his starts are, what do you think helped improve his starts? Do you think it is the bike and comfort? Or maybe him being around different riders at Star and being able to time them better?
What are your opinions, or little differences you've noticed?

I’d hold the horses on him fixing his starts. He had one good night of them and it was an unusual start with the over under in between. He had a ton of room to his inside on all 3 gate drops.

He may be better due to simply confidence. 90% of starts are mental.

Plus, the last two weeks the starts seemed to be better suited to him. The extra 'room' did help him.

It would be cool if he finally figured it out though...after ten years Wink

I think it was a recent swapmoto interview where he was asked what he liked about the Yamaha…his answer? “I love the cable clutch!”

He said the feel is just much better for him. Clutch feel is important for the start and Kawi has had the juice clutch since 2019.

Interesting. I saw that same video and was surprised by that answer but it does make sense if you have that as a preference. Such small things can make the difference for these guys.

Well, he's riding better in qualifying which gives him a better gate pick - that's first and foremost. That's a big deal. So it all starts with being comfortable and confident on the bike, and liking how the bike is performing for him. Then it comes to him taking that into qualifying top 3, getting a good gate pick, then focusing on getting a top 5 start in the races. When he does that, he has to be considered the favorite for the title.

I don't know what the stats are, but I recall Tomac having quite a few good starts in 2017 and 2018. When he didn't he had the speed to charge to 1st or a podium... except for a handful of nights when he did't!

The consistency of his starts has got to have the comp a little concerned – if he's always top 5 coming out the first turn that eliminates a huge hole in his game. He doesn't need to holeshot to get good results.

Mate a front starting Eli is a every racers nightmare. Not impossible seeing him putting in 20-30sec wins outdoors if he’s feeling it.

He didn’t have to hear it. The rotund one dropping the gate gave it away the entire night.

If he keeps getting these starts everyone is in trouble . Eli looks so good at the moment . Definitely the strongest out of the champion favored 3 !

It's SO early but I'm already daydreaming about how good he might be this summer
