Williamson talked about it last year...it comes down to clutch abuse, and a small amount of oil dripping onto either the engine or exhaust (obviously crankcase vent as well, as seen in the photo above).

He said the oil is completely black after a single heat race.

I recall McGrath would completely notch a clutch basket (prior to the proliferation of Hinson akadized baskets) in one moto....

These dudes are gnarly....

The crankcase vent location is in a different position than it was on older engine, so the venting steam/smoke is more visible.

I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure Kawi has said it’s nothing to worry about.

I noticed that too, but chalked it up to an optical illusion of lights in the background since it happened at the same spot as the camera followed different bikes.

Maybe not . . .
