Just like with everyone else, he just has to get the start. I would love to see him hit the podium.

With a good start he will win
With an average start he might podium
With a bad start top 7

He really is THAT good.
Stamp that!

I don't think many of the 450 guys were as fit as Tomac when they started to move up. I don't expect to see any fade in the last 5. . .

What I find hilarious is that a thread pops up highlighting the fact that at 3 of the first 6 supercross races, Tomac ran the fastest lap of both classes combined, on a 250F. Everyone posts in there.

Then, the same people say "oh...yea....top 10 maybe"

Did it ever dawn on anyone that he is capable of lining up on his 250 and winning Atlanta? There is more to racing than just lap times, yes, but Tomac winning Atlanta is totally feasible.

Is this account of yours going to go any better than the previous eight or nine?

I wonder if he is going to have to chill that ultra aggressive riding style he has been running very successfully on the 250f in order to stay consistent on the big bike.

Being fast for one lap is a lot different than finishing 20 at the same pace.

Starts have been key in the race and his big body and that 250 get great starts. Add in his lap times are already competitive with the top 3 in the big class, then consider he's probably more comfortable on that 450.
Didn't he win his first outdoor national and didn't he damn near win it all at Monster Cup? He won't be intimidated.

The best 125/250f riders we've ever seen either got injured or had bad results their first race or first season on the big bike. The transition isn't as simple as "his laptimes are right there even on a 250". It's a completely different ball game. Hopefully he will be right there battling for wins, but that seems unlikely to me. Remember he's never even seen the east coast tracks before. I think he's more in the mindset of getting used to the 450 in SX and learning the tracks for next year.

I don't think I can go further than capable of being on the podium. In a season where RV and Dungey have been off the podium more than once, not to mention Reed and Stewart, I don't think any podium bet is safe.

I'd put his name with 7 or 8 of the regular 450 riders that could win and certainly podium. Go Eli!
