How long until we see a tire manufacturer build a tire to work specifically for the steel start grates? As long as the center knobbies could fit inside the openings, you'd have consistently perfect traction. Then it would be up to the electronic specialists to design a start mode that would work in conjunction with this initial 100% traction. It would suck for all non factory riders if this acually did happen because it would be nearly impossible to beat. If it does happen though, I'd at least like a sponsorship for the idea- maybe 10% off and a key chain haha

I think they are fighting with too much traction right now...packing dirt into the grates to help with that..I could be wrong.

I don't see tire manufacturer's doing tires specifically for start grates. Starts are a very important part of the race yes but it such a small part of it that I can't see them investing time and money for something that last a second.

Dirt, sand, clay, etc. is much more important.

Max traction behind the gate. The skill comes into play when the tire hits dirt. How much throttle/clutch. And other factors.
