Time to Have a Non-regional 250 SX Class? (wreck 2x, still podium)

OK. It has been a nice 33 years, but I think it is time for the 250SX class to be non-regional (change to all 17 rounds). When someone wrecks twice, then podiums, I think it is time to have a single class.

Like the 450 class, 250 racers will get injured. Factory fill-ins and "privateers" can fill the remaining spots as the schedule moves along.

Anyone else think it is time?

agree ... about time , make the 250 SX series a lot more interesting and a full legit series with 17 rounds

the funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it

I'm with you.

Been saying that for years.

Yes

They are flying by those dudes like local club riders. They need to make a chance or the 250 east is just weak.

|

Yup

|

4/7/2019 5:43 AM

Definitely.

|

Sure, make the competition twice as hard by cutting out half the riders and see how well new riders do. Nothing better than racing SX and never making the evening show.

Yeh let’s just take away a bunch of people’s jobs and give virtually every privateer no shot to make a main in the “support” class...real smart

|

4/7/2019 5:56 AM

Yes

|

4/7/2019 6:04 AM

A lot of things you don’t take into consideration. East coast has always had more privateers than west because the factory teams are based there. Not to mention less jobs

|

4/7/2019 6:12 AM

Then... add a 125 2T class.

|

4/7/2019 6:20 AM

Yup jus throw the youngest most inexperienced riders into a 17 race meat grinder. There will be zero of the top contenders left by the time mx starts. Be great for the privateers too. I'm sure they will able to afford the massive new schedule

Great point! Thread/over

If it really is supposed to be a support series, get rid of all factory support or make a salary cap. This would give elite riders the motivation to move up to the 450 class. Like the McElrath situation, do you think he would be sitting out if a 250 ride had max salary or $75k or even $100k? Still have factory support for the "full time" 250 series outdoors that isn't a development class.

Its just a bad year. 4 podium guys.

This is stupid, lets set it up so the only guys that can race are the ones who were groomed since birth, had all the opportunities, and the money to get there. Bad plan.

Get Rid of the factory bikes in the class

|

For those of you saying it knocks amateurs out of chances to race, then do you support a 4-way series, north, east, south and west, for example?

Sure But let some one race as many of them as they want
Even all four.
But for god sakes do something about the bikes
Yeah Cooper and Sexton are faster better riders , but for
f-ck sake why do we want to see the best Riders on faster, lighter, better handling bikes?

Because that's how its always been right.... great answer

Either make it a regional development class, or make it a legitimate additional pro class. Right now it really is neither.

|

4/11/2019 9:26 AM

Yeah no. Keep it regional. It is designed to give as many riders as possible a shot at learning supercross in a real racing situation. I feel regional sx classes are so much more important now then before as we no longer have the ax series.

|

4/11/2019 9:31 AM

Not only that but in a sport that is soooooooooo fucking hard to make a living in people are actually suggesting making it harder to make a living at. I don't get it.

|

Here's my opinion...

If you keep it regional, then something needs to be done to keep guys from being in the class for too long. Lifetime 250 regional guys are ridiculous.

If you go non-regional then open it up to everyone. You win a title, you get a year to defend it then you move up(same as regional). Problem with this is you won't have as many 250 team riders. No way PC, Star, Geico, JGR or TLD run 4 riders at every round for 17 rounds of SX. Some of the teams are already using the same bikes for both coasts and different riders, Geico is for sure. I could be wrong but that's what I see happening.

There should be a full 17 round 250 series and two regional 250 series that are non televised (but streamed, just like EMX classes in Europe) with an age limit. That is the optimal solution in my opinion.

I agree something needs to be done to encourage or make them move up.

I was thinking of making the 250 class a national title, but call it the semi-pro class and the 450's the pro class or something like that to take away some of the prestige...

|

4/11/2019 1:15 PM

No.

But have more east / west shootouts.

There's already barely enough 450 rides to go around, and you suddenly want like 5-10 guys to move up? What are they supposed to ride?
