The sport is gonna die..... thread is locked. I've seen that lock icon before but never paid attention. What is the reason for it? I didn't see anything untoward or offensive...on the contrary, I thought it was one of the better discussions in a while. Clue me mods.

Strange . It was for the most part a good civil discussion . There were a couple posts critical of how many classes are run at Loretta's.

We deserve a detailed answer why it was locked on this one. A ton of positive input in that thread. Let me guess it was not about pro riders or pro series.

OP could have locked it himself. I agree. Didn't see a reason as to why he would lock it. Unless he was annoyed at how many email notifications he was getting haha.

Hmmm, seemed pretty non-combative.

It's possible that the original poster of the thread locked it himself although I'm guessing that's not the care?

Just went back and reread part of that thread. Someone must have gotten their toes stepped on for that discussion to get shut down. Like someone else mentioned. There was a lot of constructive suggestions in that thread. Explanation require for closing that one down.

Can a poster lock a thread they start or does a Moderator have to do it?

I had just never really seen that before. A thread was alive till it died of old age, went to the dumbgeon, or was deleted.

Yes, if you start the thread you can close it at any time.

Ok, I have the option to edit or delete. When I clicked edit...it allowed me to edit the text I had written or cancel. When I clicked "delete"...it deleted my post. "Lock" is not an option I have seen.

Three people can locks threads. The Original Poster, a Moderator, or an Administrator. If an OP locks it, he can unlock it or an Admin/Mod can unlock it. If an Admin locks it, only another Admin can unlock it.

Ok...when I went to ask you how an OP can lock a thread...I see the "lock topic" icon in this "post a reply" block. Never noticed it before.

So, the "lock topic" option only appears to the OP when he goes to the "Post a Reply to" box. I just never noticed it before.

I still have to ask, what is the purpose of locking a thread vs dumbgeon or delete?

It's relatively new. From an admin point, I'd just move to the Dumbgeon but I'm guessing the addition of it was so users could lock their own topic if they were over it. It never came up in a meeting that I remember.

Thanks for the info. I just don't get it though. If OP locks it...then no comments can be added so it just drops down till it's pages deep and no one reads it. The OP could just delete it if he was over it. If admin locked it....why not just delete it or send it to the dumbgeon?
