Thoughts on Thunder Valley Track changes?

Interested to hear what everyone thought of the new changes this year?

Some cool bits Down the bottom but I was bummed to see the shortening of the big fast sections up the top of the hill. They’ve provided so much great racing and passing opportunities over the years.

I thought the track was good but too many slot car long ruts in places. Made passing almost non existent.

Check out both 250 motos. Especially the 2nd moto. I can’t recall a time we had less passing in a 250 moto.

Other then that I thought the track layout and jumps were awesome!

I’m okay that they slowed it down in a few places. Really nothing wrong with that at all.

The new layout was okay.
They just ripped the damn place too deep.
You can't make a euroGP track out of a Colorado hillside in June.

They should have let the track be what the track is/was, fast and rolling.
This isn't cookie cutter SX.

Agreed. The flow is off and less passing.

I really liked the changes. There were some very challenging sections. That place has always rutted deep but it was better than usual.

I was leaning towards not liking the changes. During the racing I was talking with a friend and he asked about the changes as hes never been to Thunder Valley. My opinion to him was concerning the way they rip and water. Its way too much for me.

Ive walked the track after the race and the ruts are ridiculous. When I’ve ridden there I preferred it dryer which usually isnt the case as they love to soak those hills. My best days there is when they've laid up on the water.

That being said, I think I would have liked the changes better if it had been drier.

These guys are the best and adapt to the conditions and Im in awe of them. But as Im living through them Im thinking, Damn this sucks!!

It all kinda goes together I guess.

That dirt with heat, elevation and wind - we’ve all seen the 80’s races there, huge dust plooms hiding the shiny track surface.

So the water is for spectators but I thought it was kinda interesting with the track and the riders. Kenny and Chase are so smooth and settled in turns, maybe the slow rutted turns helped then a little, Cairoli too… and maybe the faster sections being lessened hurt Eli too. He was better Moto 1 when the ruts weren’t as connected and clearly better moto 2 in the open areas.

I thought the changes were ok. The overwatering and tilling in places not so much. Way to many places where you are confined to a rut.

I thought it roughed up real fast, 2nd 250 moto must have been brutal.

Basically the same square footage
But is it is the volume that matters not the square footage. Lol

How many passes did the new sections allow? Did it make for better racing?

I’m a fan of long downhills and speed. They removed that out of safety concerns I would assume.

Seemed harder to pass which is never good.

Wasn't it last year they kept making a big deal about how the racing was better because they didn't rip the tracks and water it as much? What happened to that logic???

I liked the changes but agree with most too deep too wet. Hangtown had all kinds of good lines with lighter prep. TV could have been the same.

Other than the slot car surface, I thought the layout was good.
