So I bought it brand new in 2013. It's a 2013 CR500 model built on a 2012 CRF250R frame. Vintage Elsinore Plastics, Eric Gorr porting, some Service Honda bolt on bling. I paid almost 18k for it when I bought it. Biking areas are taking a shit kicking around here in Canada. I'll bet I've ridden it less than 30 hours on the mostly, tight single track around here and am not into the only track around here within driving distance.. I'm getting fucking too old I think at almost 60 and might have to let someone else get the most out of this thing. I'm thinking around 9k to 10k USD based on what I've seen. I've also added CF frame and pipe guards to it as well and have a complete set of new plastics and graphics for it. Am I in the ballpark? No rush to sell. It's like fucking new!

Its worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it and what you are willing to let it go for.

I had a 2012 Service Honda CR500AF, that was all blacked out with a red powder coated frame and tons of add ons. It was one that was featured on the Service Honda website too. The invoice from Service Honda was just under 19K for it. I bought it for $8500 shipped to me here in NY from a guy in Florida. It had about 10 hours on i and the guy threw in a complete set of riding gear too.

I put about 10 more hours on it and I sold it a couple years ago for $7500. It took a very long time to sell.

I think you'll have a tough time selling it for 9K.

My buy it now price is 7k. I just sold my all original unmolested 01 for 6k. I think the steel frames are making a comeback.

Thanks for the feedback. As was said, may take some time to sell but I'm in no rush. It will sell what it sells for. This was also featured on the Service Honda site as the custom Elsinore model. The pic on my avatar is the bike minus some of the carbon fibre, Baja lights, etc.

The SH CR500 use to be a hot commodity before the 450’s became better as an overall package. There is still a nitch market it for them though. GLWS..

Here's some hard-truth that I ABSOLUTLEY hate saying...

Parting it out will most likely make the most money.

If it was a fresh 500 engine to begin with? They fetch A LOT of money these days.
The Sevice Honda CR500AL frame, also, worth a lot...just as a frame.
You've got a few sets of plastic.
Fresh looking wheels.
A spring fork that many seem to need; because, they HATE their air-forks.
A shock that fits too many bikes to count.
The purpose built exhaust system.
Air Box
Carb
Harness
Gas Tank(s?)
All the controls
Etc., etc., etc. ...

However, from me-myself and I...my opinion: keep it!
Ride those events that you REALLY want to ride!
Come on out for Day in the Dirt...maybe some other race or races you've ALWAYS wanted to ride...
Why?
Because, my friend...you're worth it.

Sprocket bolts aren’t torqued properly....the criss cross pattern wasn’t followed... Nice bike!

Great looking bike. I've gotta think you can get $8k for it, but if you list it now, the sale may linger until spring.

The price depends in marketing it to guys looking for that bike.

Post it on my fb group.
A 2004 in mint shape just sold for 10k.
(Unusually high, but the SH bikes fo hold their value.)
A mint 2014 sold last month for 14k.

My guess is 9 to 11k.
It really depends on if you are willing to ship it internationally, yo eu or oz, aus.
You'll get a lot more for it that way.

I remember your bike well, its one of the first elsinore models we did .Smile

Great assessment sir. Appreciate the information. I lived in Hebron IN for 54 years before relocating.
Are you still on Hohman Ave in Hammond IN?

Nothing wrong with a clean steelie.
But if it isnt still, brand new,in the crate.
It isnt going to typically sell anywhere near what a newer service Honda or Built500 ,500AF does on average.

There are always exceptions.

I do this for a living everyday.
Which includes buying stockers just for the engine.
To go in a used AFs.

I just bought an extremely clean 97 for $2800.
And just sold a 2012 AF for 12k.

While unusually low on the 97,and a bit high in the 12,
That's far closer to the normal disparity than the steel frame selling for more than a newer model genuine SH 500AF.
(Granted a home built will be worth only slightly more than the engine by itself)

Not anymore.
Service Honda closed and the OEM parts website was sold off.

The CR500 specialty parts and AF custom motorcycle division is mine and simply returned to my Built500 shop, where I started them for sh in 97 (and made them there until 02 when moving into a service rental building)

My shop is still in Indiana,
And I still make new 500AFs,(125's,250's,rmzillas etc)

Raced this one offroad for several seasons back in the day, after a long time on a steel frame...
It had a little something unique that a trained eye like AJ's should notice in two seconds.

Yup! Sharp eye!
It's a 98 chassis. It had been finished for a few months in 99 when I saw the first spy photos of the 2000 250...
That's what happened next, lol...
Not exactly plug and play, btw.
And not the dreadful bike everybody says it was either, even if it had a few flaws.
Nice memory.

First years of drastic new rules and sound tests here in France for woods racing: you could't get away with a PC Shorty...

The bazooka actually made the power very easy to manage.

Don't sell it.....keep it around in case you get the itch. Why take the beating if you don't need the money. These bikes are only getting rarer and more expensive.....once its gone, its gone.

As soon as you get rid of her, you're going to get the itch......

The biggest mistake I made was selling my CR 500. The day I sold it was my first day of regretting it. Living in Washington it wasn't a good woods bike for me and the reason I sold it. I recently drove to So Cal for some riding and the only thing I was thinking was I wish I had my 500. Some people have old Camaros and Mustangs they hardly drive sitting in the garage. I wish I still had that bike parked in the garage.

I hear you. Definitely will be thinking twice before I consider posting it. I had a new 84 and an 89 and rode the heck out of them back in the day. Love this bike for a lot of reasons but getting to anyplace it can really eat is getting tougher. In the end, it may end up as a family heirloom. Smile

I’m one of the few who didn’t mind the 97-99 frame either.
I worked at a Honda shop back then and to this day one of the best bikes I have ever ridden was a gen 1 250 that was built by one of the mechanics I worked with. That bike was magic.
