Hey, I’m 60 years old and can’t get my head around all these riders training together.

Wardy and RJ didn’t share secrets.

It is getting cold.

Anyway, I’m going to watch the Anaheim Angels and the LA Dodgers practice.
Or maybe the Canadiens and Leafs.

There's a small panel behind the factory number plate that most riders don't know about. By accessing the panel, and programming in the sequence "up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A" it unlocks the factory "Beast Mode"

Unfortunately, it is becoming common knowledge. RJ never would've let that one out.

Great racing, but it’s practice track racing. Only Barcia didn’t get the memo.

Like Reed being JS7’s training partner.

There never were any secrets.. Bike set up, hard work, surround yourself with the best people, and finding a program that works for that individual.

Easy to type, but only one guy can do it per yr,

The secret was not letting your competition get comfortable riding with you. Not let them have inherent knowledge of yours and your bikes strengths and weaknesses, not let them know when you’re having a bad week or carrying an injury.
Mind games were the ‘secrets’.

You forgot the "start" at the end of the sequence. Probably why you can't scrub, you still need to unlock that feature. You can either pay $20 to unlock the feature or $.25 to try your chance at spinning a wheel to see if you unlock the scrub.

Ricky Carmichael would probably agree. Seriously. He basically ended his friendship with Lusk so Ezra couldn't see how he was training.

The RJ and Stanton bro'down didn't work out well for RJ.
Barcia choosing to not train with Baker maybe isn't that surprising. A guy with the nickname of "Bam Bam" probably doesn't want other riders feeling comfortable around him on race day.

On the flip side, I've heard Aldon Baker say that they let riders vote on who they can bring into the program. Was Barcia not allowed?

Well there are no "Works" bikes anymore. So nothing to steal there.
Everything is on Instagram anyway so what is there to steal.

The biggest reason is Aldon Baker proved that a high tide lifts all boats. You put great riders together they just get stronger trying to outwork each other.

And wouldn't allow Pastrana to ride the test track at the same time as him.

Crazy that those guys pay Aldon all of that money since all of his secrets are Instagram anyway. Dry

Spoken like a true professional practice rider.

I would say that AC and Sexton training together helped them both this year. They were both rookies in the 450 class and finished 2 and 5 in points with both winning overalls.

I actually beg to differ- RJ and Stanton trained together, Bailey and O'Show, I'm sure there were others. I remember stories about a lot of the factory guys showing up places and riding the days before nationals. I always loved that story about RJ and Wardy showing up at the same practice area one day by accident and they basically kept marking each other every lap, neither one was going to quit until one of them finally ran out of gas. Ward and RJ had probably the biggest rivalry of that era, but we also don't see Eli and Kenny out there being practice buddies.
It definitely is more of a structured program now, but it isn't entirely unprecedented. I'm with you though - it has to be a bit weird to race a guy hard and then show up to practice with then the next week. Pretty sure that's how the Bowers and Webb training partnership ended?

The guy was brutal on his competition. Treated losing like the end of the world and guarded his secrets like a watch dog. .... it only produced the best motocrosser ever.

When two competitors train together the slower guy always benefits more. ALWAYS.

I believe it was Tortelli that had Marc Peters build him a track. Tortelli invited a bunch of top guys over to ride it. Tortelli didn't ride, the guys thrashed the track, Tortelli kicked them all out and never invited them back. He let them get the track super rough and then trained on it.

I believe Ward and Lechien rode together. Back in the 80s, the teams were larger than they are now. Look at Honda for example. Suzuki, too. I believe the riders all rode together at their teams test tracks.
