Saw this in the Pit Bits. Seems like a pretty good idea for everyone. Fairly cheap theft deterrent. Could be used in both the front and rear wheels. In most cases, thieves will walk away from something that isn't fairly easy to steal.

I saw that too. Seems like a really good idea as long as you don't lose the key.

A while ago I read on here about a guy who's bike was stolen while the front wheel was off of the bike and inside his house. Some people are just determined I guess...

Disc locks have been around for a long time. They are great until you forget about it and start rolling your bike and break the caliper.

Thieves by their very nature are lazy. They don’t want to have to work to hard, so whatever you can do to make it harder will then be a deterrent.

If the reward is huge then a thief will do more work than he would for a smaller reward for his thievery!

How long would it take to cut that with a cordless cutoff wheel ? Probably even faster to cut a chunk out of the disc it self

I wonder how many kicks it would take to break the disc.

I guess they saw Dan R Charles walking through the pits.

If you carried it away you would just need to remove the wheel and caliper. $60 bike! lmao

i Have forgotten many times, never broke the caliper. Maybe if it fell of the truck or a pull start from a dead stop.

I know a few people who have tried to ride off on street bikes with a disc lock in place. (And one that pulled confidently away with the steering lock on his trail bike - ouch)

Common now to run a “curly cord” from the lock to the front brake lever.
1. Increases visibility for potential thieves.
2. Reminds the owner.

What's the backstory on this?

Thieves are often times pretty well organized. Around me it was known they would use 2 pipes and 4 people slide the pipe thru each wheel and grab an end and carry straight into the van.

That works with sport bikes no problem. Yes disc locks are a start but, hardly.

It helps to be insured, takes some of the worry away. I use disc locks and cable to my work bench or bumper, plus motion lights at night and a locked garage at home... if they get thru all of that without being caught and shot, they can have it and I will make a claim.

This is my deterrent. However, I work from home so I'm almost always here. I'm sure if they REALLY want it, they'll get it. This just helps with piece of mind.

Wow. I usually have mine chained to the stand, then the floor anchor and my car is parked next to it, pinning it in. I'm currently using the stand on another bike servicing suspension though.

I'm the same way. If my bike is out of my site, it has a lock on it. I lock my bike to the bed of my truck when I go to the track so I don't have to worry when I'm at a gas station.
