I actually like the thumbs up/thumbs down. I can easily scroll through long threads and pick out the stupid things people have posted. It’s also interesting to see the same people getting downvoted on a regular basis.

I actually don't care that much. But if thumbs up are not anonymous i don't know why thumbs down should be.

If i would be able to see that some reputable member gave thumbs down to my post it might nudge me towards re-evaluating my life decisions.... but as it is i take it as mass downvotes from russian bots preparing for elections.

I honestly forget it's even there most the time. Went the first 12 years or so here , without the thumbs up / down being there.....so I still aint used to it. Meh......either way is fine with me.

I think it's a handy feature.Sometimes you come across something that's so stupid that you wouldn't know where to start saying what's wrong with it. Thumbs down is nice then. I'd be fine with removing the anonymity.

Frankly, if I say something and everyone is giving it a thumbs down, I might rethink the wisdom of what I said. It doesn't mean I am certainly wrong, but I might be - or was just inarticulate. Unless you subscribe to an "everyone is stupid but me" view of the world, a large number of thumbs down should at least give one pause to have another look at what was said. If you think "I'm so smart and profound that nobody understands me because they're idiots", then you just might be the idiot.

On the other hand, if nobody ever disagrees with you, what you're saying is probably banal and barely worth saying. Interesting ideas are usually controversial. Getting bent out of shape over a few thumbs down makes me think you're more interested in padding your ego than actually contributing to a discussion. Might be time to grow up a bit.

When the system was first implemented, we did have the ability to see who had given a post a thumbs-down. I'm guessing that capability was removed in order to discourage the very real and very predictable logical consequences of that information.
