I thought it was pretty funny when A Ray goes to grab the kickstarter and he misses it twice because it's little compared to a 450. lol

Is that the equivalent of going from an E start bike to a kickstart? A la Reed when he started testing with JGR after his stint on Husky's?

You just can't convince me that 250F's are a better option than 125's. That bike looks and sounds amazing!!

I thought so too. 125ARay and 450ARay are 2 different riders!

Any rider on an under powered 2 stroke is going to be a different rider than on an over powered 4 stroke. One of them you have to finesse every last drop of power out of it and be light in your feet to keep it where it’s making power. The other one you have to be careful not to twist the throttle too quick because it will send you to the moon if you’re not careful and you can just twist the throttle anywhere and have instant power.

It’s one of the biggest reasons why people miss 2 stroke racing. Riders trying to go as fast as possible on slower bikes is just so much more fun to watch than riders detuning 450s and hugging every inside possible with no consequence.

I meant to quote this in the last post. Yeah it looks like Cattywampus is corrected!

Caddywhompus, bro!

But yes. Good rider and if he could smooth out, he'd be a great rider.

If you're talking about fun factor, there's an argument to be had that a glorified mini-bike is a "better option". If you're talking about competition and getting around a track as quickly as possible there is no argument.

Sadly, even I have to concede defeat here. From just about the the day they arrived, 250Fs started clobbering 125s on the racetrack. There are all kinds of arguments we've all heard before, but the truth is that the way the rules are written the 250F is better for MX.

Yep. I went from an 2010 150SX to a 2014 YZ450f and experienced exactly that. Easy to ride and easy to jump everything, but the moment it's going a little sideways it's over and you're down. With the 150 I could get out of almost every situation. I sold the 450 with 40 hours because I was convinced that it wants to kill me.

I also believe that motorcycle racing is better when you don't have infinte power and traction.

I don't mean the rules as they are... I mean with regards to racing quality, safety, and fun factor. I strongly believe the 125 class was better along with it being a better stepping stone option from mini-bikes into big bikes.

Don't get me wrong, 250F's offer great racing. I'd really prefer to see a 125 2 stroke class and then a 250F class as the "premier" class. If you have to keep the 450's, move them as an outdoor only series like the old 500 class used to be.

I bought a 2015 YZ250f and think that that's the fastest / most efficient bike for the tracks I ride (hard pack). It's ok light, handles good, has enough power and is kind of boring, haha. My next bike will be a 125/150 again. I just ride and it's all about fun for me. I love the low weight and lack of rotational inertia because of the small crank. They feel light and if you make a mistake, you have a chance to right the ship. I was in way more sketchy situation on the track with my 150 compared to the 450 but crashed alot less. And if you have a good day on a 125 and can make it scream: best feeling in the world!

125 class, 2 or 4 stroke.
250 class, 2 or 4 stroke.
True open class.

Simple rules for a simple motor sport.

Not a bad idea... or maybe the premier class is a 350 class and then 450s are the outdoor equivalent of 500s? And it's open, so you could ride a 500 or a 650 Thumper. Like the old MX3 (I don't know if that's still around.)

^ All of these are great ideas. Pit bike for the win.

I think this is all more likely than getting everyone to start up 350 lines. I'd love to see how a modern 125 fuel injected four stroke would compare to a 125 two stroke.

The 500 class used to be taken just as serious as today's 450 class. If history repeats itself, as unlikely as it seems, the 450 class could be dissolved. Maybe not the production of 450's though; see Open class, dual sports, trail bikes, dirt track, etc.

It all makes sense now... this is why they did the centerport alum frame for the 250f.

Different strokes for different folks. If you race then you might as well have a 4 stroke. If you’re in it for fun like me and ride mx and whatever else than a 2 stroke is as fun as it gets. Have owned 3 yz250f prior to my 2018 yz 125 and will probably never own a 4 stroke again

On paper the 250F is the better choice. And, for those at the top it clearly is. The average crowd does not get everything out of a 250f. I rode my 144 many times passing people on 250s and 450s. In fact, the nimble, lightweight bike was better for me and I could keep my speed up for more laps. If you can ride a 125/144/150 in the powerband well, they are capable of getting around a track plenty quick.

The RM125 wasn’t competitive against a 2002 YZ250F. So now how does it compare to the 2019 yz250F? Hmmm

Are they making it to compete with 250F's in 2019? Maybe an RM 125 vs other 125 two strokes is a more realistic comparison?
