Anybody know what's on the side? Sorry if it's already been brought up, not on here too much.

I want to say it's an oil cooler. But I'm not 100% on that.

We knows what happens at 88 mph, we saw it last year at Colorado. Hopefully he stays at 87.

I'm also under the impression that's an oil cooler. Other Kawasakis had that , at the first race.

Ask an honest question, get 10 smarty-pants responses (like this one):

Seems a strange way to mount it, most I have seen are double mounted behind the radiator.

I think that is the most ghetto mod I have ever seen on a factory bike.

I may be alone here, but to me it seems like the Kawi's are slow and constantly in the upper rpm range compared to the other bikes.

Seems kind of counter productive to bolt a oil cooler to the hottest part of the bike, but if they are struggling for room...

If the test data is positive and supports the position it's good, but I see your point.

Not sure how there can be a noticeable difference in temp.

Factory teams and the after market have been putting oil coolers in that location forever.

And why put a grid over it, it's an oil cooler, let air flows...

The location I mentioned? Surely thats the logical location, air flow and all that.

Because it restricts airflow. Giving your secondary cooling solution precedence over your primary cooling solution is certainly not logical.

Fair point, I'm sure it was kawi that made a radiator unit with a separate oil cooler section built onto the bottom at some time.

The material/thickness/surface area of an oil cooler is a hundred times more capable of conduction/radiation then that of engine castings.

I would think they'd benefit more from a fuel cooler in Colorado. A small box with coiled tubing, packed with dry ice. Same principle as an ice chest with many tubing coils, packed with ice, and a hose/nozzle on the out side. Eliminates the need to constantly add ice to the keg barrel. Just thinking back to the fuel boiling issues in the earlier days of Thunder Valley.
