Is this the kind of spirit of competition we get to see race in race out in supercross/motocross? We enjoy a sport where the drive to win by the best racers in motocross, at times, will not be deterred by a setback like crashing or racing with a major injury, that would put 99.9% of us on the couch for weeks. Heather's desire and ability to do what she did, as late in the race as it was, was as impressive to me as Stewart at Daytona this year, McGrath crashing in the first turn at the '92 125 Supercross race and coming from dead last to take the win, or Magoo racing on with 25% of his handlebar missing and no clutch, etc...

Cool stuff.

Sandbagger!

J/k, that was awesome!

I'm sure anybody will attest that the wins they remember the most are the ones that were hardest to achieve. It's really interesting to see how much faster she started running as soon as she got up, like suddenly she had nothing to loose and wasn't worrying about conserving energy, pacing, anything, she just had a target in front of her and wasn't thinking about anything else.

You see it in riders all the time, especially after they have a bad race and loose the points lead or something similar where suddenly all they are focused on is riding and they ride at a much higher level than before.

This affected me for a while because I would ride tentatively in the first moto to conserve energy and not throw it away, and it became a mental thing where I knew I would do better in the second moto but I didn't realize it was only because I was holding back during the first. My coach pointed this out to me once and it changed my mentality completely for the first motos.

Gave me chills, also.

I was expecting a Ryan Hughes kind of moment where she was going to fall right before the finish line of the last lap, crawl a little, then get up with a broken ankle or something and 'will' herself across the finish line. So, to see her coming from behind the pack and actually start reeling in those runners, wasn't what I was expecting. That's was a crashed out over a nasty rhythm section, get back on your tweaked out bike with your busted up body, put your head down and get down to business... reel in the pack, moving forward, never quitting 'til the end, focused only on the top step of the box, kind of thing.

That's one of the things I love about our sport. There have been so many bad dudes in motocross, worldwide... it's ridiculous Smile

Heart! I like it.

Everyone around here will say she is cheating because she got to rest in the middle of it. Sad

When I raced I remember some of my proudest moments were when I crashed on the first lap, got up in 20th-30th place and finished 10th-15th... in a 5 lap race. My Dad video rec all my races, and he would be hooting and hollering every pass I made. I wouldn't hear a peep on the vid when I went from 3rd the first lap and finished 6th-8th in a 5 lap race... without crashing.

That's pretty cool. I imagine there's one too many kids that have had the 'moto dad' that would have been yelling at them, when dropping back.

On the topic of dads and inspirational (Derek Redmond vid), Some of you guys may have already seen this, but I've yet to find something that tops this one, regarding a father and son and the spirit of competition, that is the epitome of love and sacrifice. Sorry, I couldn't find one with a better resolution.

For those of us who didn't have fathers that were involved is our lives, Dick Hoyt, is an awesome example to follow.

*Edit: I replaced the original video with a clearer video, that tells the Hoyt's story.
