There was a kid that raced a CCM at all of the Eastern 4 stroke races in 1996. That thing would rarely finish. He broke the Steering head repeatedly. If I remember correctly the oil was held in the frame. Our Husabergs were the bikes to have that year.

When I was a kid we went to bike week for vacation and the Team Yamaha rig was parked at a hotel in Deland. The YZM400 was sitting there out side the truck while the mechanics worked on it, along with K-dub and Dowd's bike. Gainsville that year was the only race it was blue. I still have the photos I took but I dont have a scanner.

When I was an adult, I watched Henry rail that thing around Hangtown... it smoked more than any two stroke out there! LOL

Doug has that bike at his house. It's sick! He also has his 93 CR125 if a box of parts! I offered to put that bike together! I would love to ride that 93 Factory CR125!

I still believe the two strokes could be so much better then they ever were. Large bore thumpers blew them out of the water on so many levels at that turn. Though I got nothing wrong with you that want to mix your gas, you have every right to line up on the starting line. Had two strokes jumped ahead like the thumpers did, they would be that much cooler.

No. Smail didn't ride the east that year. This guy was from Ohio and his name started with a W. Bowen was on a KTM, Mike Young, Todd Dehoop, and a bunch of others on Husabergs. Mike Brown rode a heavily modified XR600.

That think was smoking so bad at the end of the first round at Gatorback that we wondered if he would finish.

That bike symbolizes the thing that pisses me off most about the 4 strokes.. As soon as that bike won a national championship in its first production year, the AMA should have stepped in and said 400cc is enough to be competetive, so thats the displacement limit.

I agree - they should have put the cc limit at 400.
Then they should have done the same thing with the small bore class - limited them to 220cc or something like that.

watching Mr. Henry rail the inside rut before the finish line double at the Vegas SX in the debut of that bike was magical. I will never forget watching that race.

Regardless - 400cc was more than enough to be competitive with a 250 2 stroke.

The Rulemaking bodies at the AMA were a bunch of idiots to open it up to 450's.
