Who all has had a “perfect year” as far as motocross goes? My Googling is coming up a bit short tonight but what I mean is... who has won both SX and MX championships, been elected for the USA MXdN team and been on the winning team all in the same year?

AP is on that course now but I’m assuming a few others have done it as well? Must but a short list, though.

Dungey and RV both did it in '10 and '11. RC probably did it on more than one occasion.

2010 Ryan Dungey won the SX and MX titles and then went 1-1 at MXdN as a rookie. Not a bad year.

Yep. Hard to beat RV in 11, figuratively and literally.

Agree. RV's 2011 season is the greatest single season ever IMO.

Thank you! It is a relatively short list but a powerful one. RVs 2011 season is nuts!

RC would certainly have been in the running for a lot more of these, but had a lot of weird circumstances around the MXON.

No team in '01, '02, '04 (his prime)

Hurt in '06

Also dominated in 03 against Everts in the Belgian sand. But his team wasn’t very good.

Bayle in 1991 won the 250 and 500 outdoor titles and the 250 supercross title. Boom. Nobody else ever did that.

Rick Johnson 1986. SX250, MX250 and almost MX500, plus the MXDN win.

Good point. Suppose if you went by winnings and just called even round numbers for some over simplified guesses you could maybe say

RV. A million for each title, 9 wins @ 100K, Monster Million* = $3.9M

RC. A million for each title, 19 wins and US Open @ 100K = $4.0M

*But I think we know RV's million might not have been and this post is making some ridiculous assumptions and omissions!

RC had more wins in in 2005 than RV did in 2011 as well.

And if not for the 01 terrorist attacks, he very well could/would have done it there too. Then of course in 02 not sending a team. 02 might have been RC’s single most dominant season actually.

I forgot about the US Open. I guess I'd have to say RC in 2005 might trump RV in 2011. Either way, both very dominant seasons. And I'd argue that RV had to overcome a deeper field to get that Supercross title. 4 guys in with a mathematical chance at Vegas that year.
