Yeah I'm the pits tonight until 11:30p or later he was talking to anyone that came over and would take pics - so humble. Also we've seen him when the pits are outside help take down the tent - msot of it by himself. Imagine being at that level for many decades and still taking the time to chat with fo!ks and pitching in on the manual labor after a mega long day. We saw one team mgr tell someone "pick that shit up and let's get out of here" at 10.45p or so....

Thats awesome - thanks for sharing. Roger DeCoster is the single most important person in the history of the sport.

I dread the day the man retires. Selfishly hope he stays for at least s few more years but J think his contract may be up in 17?

There will not be another one like him. Ryan Dungey is proving to be a formidable champion and honest ambassador of the sport. If he has absorbed even half of Roger's wisdom then we may have a worthy heir to the throne. I think Ryan understands and respects "legacy".

I spoke to him as we walked in,always do.

The sport would be totally different without him in it.

He came over to watch mxgp at the other ktm rigg, pretty cool sitting with my daughter, the man,mm25 and some other important people at Atlanta.

If anybody gets a chance ask him if he remembers the time at the old Astrodome when I tried to talk to him but the combination of Lone Stars and me being in awe resulted in nothing coming out but meaningless babble? It was pretty bad so he might.

My wife pretended not to know me.

The coolest cat to ever ride a dirt bike. Someone post that pic of him lounging in the hat with that gorgeous lady standing next to him, please.

Roger is style, class, talent, integrity and drive all rolled up into a neat moto package. We are damn lucky he decided to make a life of it here in the U.S.

I've seen him hands on with a lathe in an older " Behind the dream " episode, Does he play an active role in R&D or was that just a highlight of his skill set?

With apologies to the bloke in the picture with Roger - as I'm no perfect specimen, at 56 - the 70+year old Roger, looks like a far fitter individual.

I spoke to him as a little kid at Oran Park (1973, I think it was) when he came over with Joel Robert, and, I think, Aberg and some Brits, then, at Eastern Creek / Sydney Motorsports Circuit when he was over to do a Superbikers / Motard type event, and in '98 at the first MGM Grand SX.

At the MGM Grand, in the pits, I asked him if he was OK with me taking his picture (it's in a box with about 70 rolls of undeveloped film from that trip - I''ve never bothered with pictures of my travels, since). He seemed genuinely surprised / touched that someone would ask for his permission to take a picture of him. Not a bloke that regards himself as a celebrity - a fair few riders could learn a bit of humility from him.

The Man, Indeed.

I sat here for like 6 minutes trying to think of a worthy mix of cuss words and adjectives for this shot but there's just no way

I guess with the throttle wide open like that there is no need to feather the clutch...he's committed for sure.

Same here, there is no fan of this sport that cant say "I cant thank Roger DeCoster enough" !

His career as a rider was impressive, but what he has accomplished since is literally amazing:
Big Red !
So many MXdN wins for the US !
American Suzuki winning !
and finishing on a big note with Big Orange, which this year looks even more dominant than Big Red !

As a French, it is the same, there was Vimond to look up for, but there would have been no JMB as we know him without DeCoster, and so we would not have had the huge riders from the following generations: DeMaria, Bolley, Pichon, DV, Tortelli, RonRon, CP, Musquin, Paulin, Febvre, Tixier, Ferrandis, ETC !

It is rare to impact so much a sport ! We would be glad to adopt him ! Smile
