Why are most of the top riders skipping the MEC? They're handing the 1M to Tomac that easily?
Musquin - recovering from knee injury sustained at Ironman
Webb - just back on bike, not feeling ready
Osborne - having small surgery from his SC joint injury in the summer
Anderson - needs a break after his Euro MXoN tour
Savatgy - no bike/team officially sorted
Roczen - recovering from mystery virus (though good enough to ride Straight Rhythm)
Baggett - recovering from parvovirus
Bogle - recovering from EB virus
Brayton - racing SX in Australia

It sucks how weak this field is, and I'm disappointed that a few of the manufacturers don't line up some 250 guys on 450s as has been done in the past. Tomac rode MEC when he was still a 250 guy, as did Justin Hill and I believe Shane McElrath a few years back. KTM could put Hartranft on the 450, or even on his 250. Husky has Deano but could also enter Mosiman. Honda could have Sexton ride, he's been on a 450 a bit from what I can see on IG. Yamaha already has 2 guys but could put Ferrandis, Nichols or McElrath out there too. Heck, if I was team manager I'd probably put some young guys like Drake, Swoll or Shimoda out there just to get some experience before the pressure cooker of a real series. Might be beneficial for those kids to line up under the lights with a big crowd before they debut in 2020??

I guess this ultimately shows how little the industry cares about a race in late October. The only teams making a real effort are the Monster backed teams. The perceived risk of injury and cost must deter everyone else.

Thanks, I didn't realize most of the top dogs are out. This should be an easy win for Eli.

How come this thread hasn't been renamed The MEH?

Would love to see Kawi do a 85'ish throwback scheme with modern layouts.

I disagree. It's definitely better than 2017 but I prefer last year's bike. I'm not liking the green number plates or the little gold flakes in the graphics.

The gold flakes I get, being Vegas and all but still not a fan of them.

Hopefully more teams do something different. J. Mart's bike looks good but it's just a typical Geico bike.

You’re right- they do different flavours and each have different colours.

They could use the Blue claw on the yamahas all these years. Or, have the two Kawasaki’s sporting the same graphics but in different colorways.

He wasn't exactly slow in 2017 when he last raced it (less than a second off the quickest in quali), so i'm not sure how you can tell how fast he's going from a few videos posted online?

Not too bad. I'd like to see a white outline on the 9 like the 1 has.

Its never been an issue before. There is something going on behind the scenes that they aren't saying. Riders are healthy enough and rested to go Race a dangerous two-stroke Race 2 weeks ago but now all of a sudden 3 riders are recovering from an unknown illness (Roczen Baggett and Bogle) and everyone else is focusing on Supercross prep please! Even though Osborne Raced MXoN's he wouldn't miss this Race unless he was told he had to same goes for Anderson who actually practiced at RBSR. Webb who proved he is the best at the 3 Race format by winning 2 out of 3 Triple Crown events and the Championship! He rides RBSR but sits out the MEC to do Supercross Prep? Same goes for Roczen he won RBSR 2 weeks ago but isn't healthy enough to Race MEC especially when his MXGP HRC Honda counterpart is Racing it again I don't think either Racer would sit out unless told to. When 4 out of the 6 Factory Teams and their Sataliete Teams pull out of the biggest payday of the year except for the two Factory Teams sponsored by Monster Energy something is not right we are not getting the entire story and we probably never will! Factory Teams use this Race to debut the 2020 Bikes and get an idea of what work needs to be done to get ready for Anaheim 1. It has always been like this even when it was a 2 night Race called the US Open everyone who wasn't hurt showed up!

That's what I'm thinking. As long as he doesn't wad it somewhere. I think he's a little more prepared than he was in 2017, and even then he was showing top 5 speed before he ate it.

Those online videos are old even if they were just posted. I watched him since I have been out in Cali during the week and at first he didn't look good at all he kept dropping the front of his bike off of every jump which would have ended up throwing him over the bars. But now with SX Suspension and the help of HRC Honda he looks like a completely different Rider. He was 6th fastest in 2017 Qualifying well I bet he gets top 3 this year in qualifying! This is the perfect Supercross Track for an MXGP Rider to come Race on. It has no whoops and very forgiving jumps because the Superminis need to be able to ride the track. Its more of a Hybrid SX-MX Track and he is good on hardpack as well so don't count him out this year. In 2017 he rode his MXGP bike with MX suspension he had no clue what he was getting himself into now he does! Gajser took a page right out of our playbook show up 10 days early to work on his bike setup and technique. Plus he has huge momentum behind him he just won his 3rd world title 2nd in the MXGP Class and won at the MXoN's as Webb proved confidence and momentum is everything in this sport!

I liked 2017. 2018 without a white seat could've been okay.

I'm just glad they updated his jersey to have logos that align with what he actual wears. V3 helmet, Vue goggles and Airline gloves. Not V1, Main and Dirtpaw.

Should it just be called the ‘Eli Kawasaki cup’ that nobody serious challengers can be bothered to turn up to because it’s meaningless and irrelevant?
