This is my look back at the history of Yamaha's Open class four-strokes from 1998 through 2022.

Awesome! Can’t wait to check it out!
(Gettin’ my superbowl on right now! Ha)

I had a 1998 400, 2-2000 426’s, 2002 426, 2005 450,
2-2009 450’s (skipped the 10-13 generation!) a 2015 YZ450 and planning to buy a 2023 IF it’s a new model as expected!

Thanks for posting these fabulous trips down memory lane! The XR75 was excellent too! 😎✅👍

Got doubled on the prototype yz400 out at a private track. Remember when it just motored past a KX250 on the uphill back straight.
Love/hate them.

I was there at Vegas when Henry made the four stroke look legit! Was Incredible. Also had 01 426, switching from a 94 CR500. Loved the Yamaha.

This is a painful look back for the two stroke nut swingers..... I remember my first few laps on my new 99 YZ400F at my local practice track. A short approach jump that required second gear on my KX250 could be overrevved in first and cleared, hit just perfect in second and cleared and bogged in third and cleared....wide, wide powerbands are superior. sorry, two strokers

In 2000, one of the die-hard two-stroke guys at my local track, also bought a new 426F, didn’t like it at all with the abrupt engine braking, and offered me a quick-sale deal on it so he could buy another smoker before they were gone! (I figured the only thing better than one new 426 was two new 426’s! Ha)

The 2009 was a similar type deal…I had bought a new 09, had it all dialed in for Moto and a coworker that had bought an 09 and set it up for off roading with his teenage son, only rode it a handful of times and they went a different direction so I bought it to trail ride with my buddy that is too sketched out about riding MX!
